Avalanche Training
On April 13th and 15th, during Advisory, VSSA will be providing Upper School students in grades 9,10 and 12 avalanche training with long-time local expert Mike Duffy. They will be practicing techniques in the field to hone their skills with beacons, probing and proper digging methods. They will also be talking about group dynamics in the backcountry and how to make good decisions in the mountains.

9th Grade will be working with Mike Duffy on Wednesday, April 13th during Advisory.

10th and 12th Grade will work with Mike Duffy on Friday, April 15th during Advisory.

We will also have an in-class session on April 20th for grades 9, 10 and 12 in Mr. Pomeroy's room, where Mike Duffy will cover many theories presented in a Level 1 avalanche class.

Make sure students have winter gloves, snow pants, snow jacket, Sorels or winter boots and a beanie. If students or parents have beacons, probes or shovels, it would be great to bring them in. It may be snowing, so having gear is essential to participating. This is the fifth year we have been providing avalanche education to the students and feel it is a great learning experience and teaches essential skills for living in the mountains of Colorado.
