Supporting Your Child’s Success at VSSA
Please donate to the Academic Fund by November 30 if you have not already in support of students at Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy! We are more than halfway there in achieving our goal of $25,000.
For those pledging at the Academic Council level of $1000 or more by November 30 you are invited to join us at the home of Louise Young and Brian Hoyt in Vail on December 8 where you will enjoy culinary delights brought to you by members of the VSSA Culinary Class under the direction of teacher and “Professional Chef Extraordinaire” Forrest Knapp working alongside “Executive Chefs” Geoff Grimmer (VSSA Head of School) and Kirk Dwyer (SSCV Executive Director). Don’t miss out on this special evening in support of VSSA students and in recognition of our Academic Council members!
Your support of the Academic Fund enables SSCV to help cover the costs of a broad range of SSCV Academic Staff initiatives which support Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy students as detailed here as well as professional development/continuing education for VSSA teachers.
Click here to donate or contact Sharon Schmidt at 978-621-8738 or email@example.com with your pledge. All pledges must be fulfilled by April 30, 2017.
Ski & Snowboard Club Vail is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and your gift is tax deductible. Please consider making the Academic Fund one of your charitable donation choices as we near the end of the year. We hope both current and alumni parents as well as alumni athletes are able to support us in this initiative as we seek 100% participation at a level that is personally meaningful.

VSSA 2017-18 School Calendar
On Wednesday VSSA received approval for an innovative school calendar, customized to the needs of our snow sports athletes. This calendar is very similar to the one we had prior to 2011. In 2011, ECS asked VSSA to join a mandatory curriculum change that required we start and end with the rest of the schools in the county.
Ski Club has been our partner in designing this schedule to better meet the athletic and academic demands of our kids. This calendar has been vetted by SSCV coaches, VSSA teachers, the ECS School Board and a group of 20 VSSA parents. We are excited to share it with you now so you can begin to make plans for August. It is still possible that the February and April breaks will slide ahead or back by one week. We will have that information to you as soon as ECS sets their breaks. A cleaner version will be available on the left side of the Yeti Times starting around January.
Click here for the calendar. Click here for a narration of the changes.
How to Pay for College? VSSA will be holding a Financial Aid 101 Presentation on November 30th from 3:54-4:50 in the art room. Amanda Hildebrandt from College In Colorado will be our speaker. Interested in participating in a Service Project over Spring Break? We are looking for interested students or families to help us plan the perfect trip. The organization we would work with is Hope Sports and the project would take place in Rosarito Mexico (just outside San Diego).
The project would involve building a home for a family in need and it would take just two days! Not only does the build change a families life but it creates a sense of purpose and camaraderie that leads to successful working relationships. You will build an entire home for a family that makes $5/day and lives in extreme conditions. (No building experience necessary).
Most groups come for four days but we can add a day on the beach for surfing if we want. This would be a great thing for entire families to participate in. See attached for an example of what our trip could look like. If you are interested please click here for more details and contact Charlene.firstname.lastname@example.org
