Notes from the Office
Is there a day your student-athlete doesn't have training?

IF your child does not have on hill training and their coach is not meeting them at VSSA in the morning,  please do not drop them off at the school before 10 o’ clock study hall.  They will be unsupervised.  If they are planning to come to study hall because they have a day off training please make sure they have school work to do or a book to read. There are no video games or movies allowed in study hall.  If your student says they have no work to do please
email their teachers and ask if there are any assignments that they could be working on doing the morning study hall. Any questions please click here to email Ms. Suplizio at cynthia.suplizio@eagleschools.net.

Now is the time to start thinking about your summer plans.  Can you attend a pre-collegiate program, get college credit while spending time on a college campus of interest?  Participate in an internship or get a job?  A shared doc is in the works to help you explore and plan. Click here and look at the different sheets/tabs at bottom.

We all know about the crunch for housing in our valley, but did you realize that most local adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities have no real options for living independently and away from their parents?  Think about it.  How many 20-somethings (and older) do you know who “want” to live with their folks?  And, what happens when aging parents can no longer care for their loved ones?

Recognizing this growing need for better choices beyond living adult lives “at home with parents” or in an institutional group home, a grassroots group of families, educators, caregivers and community members are offering two focus groups to explore options, facilitated by Brent Basham of Mountain Valley Developmental Services.  Our immediate mission is to brainstorm priorities and possibilities for the future of Adults with Disabilities in the Vail Valley with an ongoing goal of providing the possibilities for the highest quality of life experiences and personal growth.

There will be two opportunities to participate in the facilitated focus group process to “Create the Future”:
March 30th from 6-8pm (Gypsum Rec Center Community Room);
April 6th from 6-8pm (Avon Library Community Room).
Some topics to be explored will be tiered independent housing, purposeful work, safety, self-determination, inclusion within the greater community, social and recreational opportunities, and a life-long home.
A Spanish interpreter will be available at both sessions.
All are welcome!

Support Slower Speeds For Minturn!

Minturn has grown residentially over the last several decades yet speed limits on State Highway 24 through town remain higher than standard residential zones. With pedestrians at risk and so many residential driveways along the road, speeding has become a big issue in our tiny town. Please help us tell the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) that Minturn wants to stay a safe and friendly community, and to reduce the number of speed limits through our town. Please click here to sign the petition. Thanks so much for your support!
