'Headmaster Heads Up'
The Eagle County School system was forced to cut 70 teachers between 2008 and 2013. For the most part, these positions have not been replaced. At VSSA, that meant the end of our Foreign Language teacher position. ECS is likely to put a bond and mill levy question on the November ballot that seeks to solve this funding problem locally.
Many have asked about marijuana money for schools. Because there is only $40 million state-wide saved up for capital improvements in the MJ fund, it is not going to help us in Eagle County. It will likely go to build 1/2 of a building in one of the other 177 school districts.
The total cost per month to a family with a $500K home will be $10 for the Mill Levy and $8-10 for the bond or $230 per year for both. The Mill Levy will go for people (salaries) and things and give ECS $10m per year while the bond should raise around 100+ million of which roughly $4m would support capital (building) improvements at VSSA.

Summer is just around the corner!!
It's time to determine what your schedule will allow and how you can use this break to build your resume and engage your passions. Take a look at the attached document that will provide a glimpse of some of these options. Contact your counselor, Charlene Whitney to discuss more.
