VSSA is on break next week, April 25 to 29th!

VSSA will be helping with the yearly Highway Cleanup for the 6th year in a row on Friday, May 6th. This event is
county-wide and is organized by the Eagle River Watershed Council. It is similar to the Creek Cleanup we do in the Fall and is essential to keep our roads clean, but also keeps the trash from blowing into our rivers. Lower School students will clean around the school while Upper School students will take responsibility for Highway 24 from the school entrance to town and from the school entrance to Tigiwon Road.

Students need to bring gloves and wear appropriate clothing and footwear next Friday to be outside.

Check out the students working in the art room and learning about pottery!

Reminder
ACT make-up for 11th graders who missed testing:May 3rd at 8am.

All
10th grade parents should attend and all are welcome! ACT & SAT: Planning for the Competitive Athlete.
May 4th 2:45-3:50 in VSSA's Art Room

Attend the College Symposium!!!
It is intended for 9th-11th graders and their parents to help navigate future educational options. The event provides extremely valuable workshops on topics like financial aid, standardized tests, getting into highly selective schools, NCAA and competing in college, as well as studying stem. This worthwhile event will be held May 3, 6pm to 9pm at the Spring Valley Campus of CMC in Glenwood Springs. VSSA will arrange transportation for anyone who needs it. Contact Charlene Whitney by May 22, if you need a ride.  Click here for information on the event.

Summer is just around the corner!!
It's time to determine what your schedule will allow and how you can use this break to build your resume and engage your passions.  Are you interested in a summer job?  taking a college class?  focusing on ACT/SAT prep?  spending time on a college campus at a pre-collegiate program? participating in community service or an internship?  Take a look at the attached document that will provide a glimpse of some of these options.  Contact your counselor, Charlene Whitney to discuss more.

Incoming 9th-12th graders:
Looking to take an online class this summer?

Mr. Martin and Ms. Krone will be running a summer program in the Think Tank for those that sign up for online classes and are looking for extra support/structure. The program will run 3 days/week with an open door schedule (10am-4pm) to accommodate different athletic programs’ training schedules. Dates, cost, Ms. Whitney’s recommendations, and more here

Teacher Appreciation Week - May 2-May 6th, 2016
A huge thank you to all of those who have volunteered to help make this special week happen.  This is our opportunity to thank and recognize our VSSA teachers and staff for their awesomeness!

Here is the schedule of events and who is in charge of things on each day:

Monday - Breakfast Teachers and staff will enjoy a delicious breakfast supplied by VSSA parents. We have all of the volunteers that we need for this event!

Tuesday - New Yeti Gear - and it's super cool stuff! Teachers and staff will have the opportunity to choose from a selection of new Yeti Gear. Orders will be placed and items will be distributed as soon as they are ready.

Wednesday -  Beginning at noon, and through the end of the day, teachers will enjoy a variety of sweet treats!

Thursday - Qdoba Burrito/Taco/Fajita Bar Lunch - Lunch will be set up in the teacher lounge. A parent will be covering lunch duty so that all teachers are free to enjoy.

Friday - Cocktail and Appetizers at Kirby's in Minturn from 4pm - ?? The perfect way to cap off what is bound to be a great week!

If you are interested in helping out with any of these events, please contact the person in charge directly. I know that we could definitely use some bakers for Thursday's sweets extravaganza!
