Senate Conservatives Fund

Fellow Conservative:

As Americans learn how Hillary Clinton provided access and favors to foreign donors to the Clinton Foundation while she was Secretary of State, a number of Senate Republicans are beginning to feel uncomfortable.

You see, all but two Republicans in the Senate voted to confirm Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State back in 2009 even though they knew the foundation was going to continue receiving foreign donations that created a conflict of interest.

One of the two Republicans to oppose Clinton's nomination was former Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) who did so specifically because of the conflict of interest created by these foreign donations. DeMint called on the foundation to swear off all foreign donations, but Clinton refused.

Now Republicans like Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) are now trying to justify their votes to confirm Hillary Clinton's nomination by claiming that she lied to them, as if that's a surprise.

"When I put a hold on Mrs. Clinton's nomination as secretary of State, she reassured me that they would take appropriate steps," said Cornyn. "As seems to be usual for the Clintons, they crossed the line and all the concerns that she reassured me would not occur did in fact occur."

The truth is that Senator Cornyn, like every other Republican, knew that the foundation was going to continue accepting foreign donations and he knew Hillary Clinton couldn't be trusted. Yet he chose to look the other way.

Senate Republicans even got the Clinton Foundation to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) stating that all foreign donations would be made public as a way to paper over the problem. But even if the foundation had disclosed all of its donors, the conflict would still have existed.

That's why the Clintons are now saying that the foundation won't accept any foreign donations if Hillary is elected president.

Rather than pretending to be innocent here, Senator Cornyn and the other Republicans who voted to confirm Hillary Clinton should admit they made a mistake and apologize. No excuses.

They wanted to rubber stamp President Obama's nominee and support their colleague, Senator Clinton, but now they bear responsibility for putting her in a position where she could do so much harm.

Call Senator John Cornyn and urge him to admit he made a mistake when he voted to confirm Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. His office numbers are:

✆ Washington - (202) 224-2934
✆ Austin - (512) 469-6034
✆ Dallas - (972) 239-1310
✆ Houston - (713) 572-3337
✆ San Antonio - (210) 224-7485

This is a good reminder of why it's important for the Senate to use its confirmation powers to reject bad nominees. Presidents have the right to nominate anyone they want, but the Senate is never obligated to confirm them.

Thank you for holding our elected officials accountable.
