Epping in Bloom celebrates Tesco funding
The Epping in Bloom group is celebrating after landing a £4,000 grant - thanks to shoppers at the Tesco stores in Epping, Ongar and Theydon Bois.
Shoppers were invited to put their checkout chips into the charity box of their choice, with Epping in Bloom receiving the most.
Epping in Bloom chairman Victoria Robertson said: "On behalf of Epping in Bloom I would like to say I'm delighted we have won £4,000. I would like to thank everyone who voted for us.
"The money will really help us make even more of a floral difference in our town."
Epping in Bloom plans to spend some of the money on a Community Day and invite a celebrity chef to cook with some of the fresh herbs and organic produce grown in the community garden next to the Marks and Spencer store off the High Street.
The group, which is awaiting the result of a visit from judges from the Anglia in Bloom competition, also intends to provide two 'living roofs' on bus stops in Epping, install more wild flower planters in the community garden as well as a wall water feature and fence trough planters.
There are also plans to bring floral colour to other locations around the town.
