West Hatch High School student in Factor EsseX
A 12-year-old student at West Hatch High School is competing in the live finals of Factor EsseX.
Year 8 student Joshua Lord is performing in the live shows which start on Sunday (October 22).
Factor EsseX, in its eighth series, is based on ITV's X-Factor show and provides a platform to promote local talent.
As with X-Factor there is an open audition day for performers to sing in front of a panel of judges before heading to a ‘Bootcamp’-style process to earn a place in the live shows - watched by an audience of more than 250 people every week.
West Hatch High School headteacher Daniel Leonard said: "We are all exceptionally proud of Joshua and the progress he has made in the competition.
"We are delighted the hard work and dedication Joshua has shown has started to pay off.
"The school has a long history of producing exceptionally talented musicians and we will be watching Joshua’s progress eagerly over the coming weeks."
Previous Factor EsseX successes include Celebrity Big Brother winner and professional
television presenter Rylan Clark, The Voice UK’s Luciee Closer, and 2017 The Voice Kids UK champion Jess Folley.
This year's Factor EsseX features five weekly shows at the Arlington Ballrooms in Leigh-on-Sea, before the grand final at Fiction, Romford.
Each week the 35 finalists will be coached by their mentors to perform a song from a certain theme, with some twists and turns thrown in along the way for entertainment value.
The Series 8 themes are UK Number Ones, Rock Week/Halloween, Pop Band Fever, Movies and Musicals and Iconic Legends – before a Festive and Christmas Number One theme in the final.
