Outgoing Epping mayor speaks of "honour and privilege"

Outgoing Epping mayor Michael Wright has handed over his chain of office to councillor Les Burrows saying it was "an honour and privilege" to have been mayor for the past year.

Mr Wright thanked councillors and town council staff for their help and support over the past 12 months.

He added 2016-17 would be "a big year" for the council with the Neighbourhood Plan, St John's Road redevelopment, extension to the town cemetery, Town Show and Christmas market.

Mr Burrows was proposed by councillor Hugh Pegrum who said Mr Burrows had been involved with Epping in Bloom and the horticultural society and "would make an excellent mayor for the coming year".

Councillor Tony Church was elected deputy mayor for the new civic year.
