A drummer who has lessons at the Loughton Music Academy is setting his sights on starting his own band after passing his Grade 8 drumming exam with Merit.
Loughton Music Academy director Cliff Cooper has hailed the achievement of 13-year-old Jake Omer as "exceptional".
Mr Cooper said: "At 13 years old this is an exceptional achievement for someone so young."
Jake's father, Adam, said: "Jake is a gifted musician and a credit to himself because he puts in the practice to be as good as he is.
"He loves music, plays different genres and enjoys them all.
"Thanks to Loughton Music Academy for their help and to Jake's grandfather, Ernie, also a musician, especially for his encouragement of music with Jake since he was a toddler."
Jake continues to practice and play the drums at home on both his acoustic and electric drum kits and with continued lessons at the High Road-based Loughton Music Academy.
Looking to the future, Jake said: "I would like to play in a band, get experience, then start my own band and play in different countries across the world."
Mr Cooper said: "Everyone at Loughton Music Academy is very proud of Jake's progress over the years and he is heading in the right direction to playing professionally as a pro-drummer.
"When you love what you do, it really shows!"
