Former West Hatch High School student receives Epping Forest District Council's Youth Council Cup
A former West Hatch High School student is one of four Epping Forest Youth Council members to receive this year's Youth Council Cup.
The cup is presented annually in recognition of their commitment to the Epping Forest Youth Council.
Malachi Fontenelle is now studying engineering at Southend College.
He is a keen scout and contributes to community events such as local town shows. He volunteers with the City of London and with the special needs adventure playground charity ELHAP.
Councillor Richard Morgan, who introduced the award, said: “While each member of the Youth Council brings their own valued and unique qualities to the role, the supporting team at Epping Forest District Council always note four individuals throughout the year, emerging stars that bring something a little extra special to the role.â€
Nick Bell, Head of Drama and Teacher in Charge of West Hatch High School's Student Voice, said: "Malachi, was part of Student Voice for three years. Throughout this time he was a valuable member of the team who was willing to take part in community outreach projects and in school activities.
"Malachi worked particularly hard when he visited the ELHAP playground. He would spend all day in the driving rain working to improve the environment for the playground users and their families."
He added: "Malachi is an intelligent and articulate young man who is brilliant at putting across his views and the views of others.
"Malachi was a brilliant youth councillor for Epping Forest and I know that Di Butler appreciated Malachi’s determination to get the job done in his quiet unassuming manner."
