A crowd gathered at the Community Garden next to the Marks and Spencer store in Epping for the switch on of the Epping in Bloom Christmas lights.

Albert, the youngest member of the Epping in Bloom group, switched on the 2,000 multi-coloured lights dressed as a snowman.

Epping in Bloom chairman Victoria Robertson, dressed as an angel, thanked everyone for supporting the festive community event.

She also thanked the committee and friends of Epping in Bloom who helped with the festive preparations.

Mulled wine was served by the volunteers along with mince pies, all donated by Marks and Spencer.

Visitors took along personalised wooden hearts and stars to hang on the trees.

Epping in Bloom volunteers Gema Denia and Cherry McCredie played guitar carol music for the crowd to sing along to.

Epping Town Mayor Tony Church was among those who supported the switch-on and congratulated Victoria for leading Epping in Bloom towards winning a Silver Gilt award in this year's Anglia in Bloom awards for the floral displays in the town.

Wooden stars and hearts can be purchased for £2 each on Fridays, December 1, 8 and 15 between 10am and 11.30am in the community garden.

Christmas cards, priced £1 each, will also be on sale.
