Clean for the Queen litter pick

Ongar Town Council will be supporting the national Clean for the Queen litter picking campaign during the special clean-up weekend on March 4-6.

Volunteers are needed for Saturday, March 5, to help get Ongar looking its best in time for the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Helpers should meet at the Jubilee Pavilion, Love Lane, Ongar, at 9.30am for a 10am start.

The town council will provide high-viz jackets, litter pickers and gloves but volunteers are asked to wear suitable clothing and footwear.

The council is supported by Epping Forest District Council which will collect all the rubbish at the end of the event.

Open Spaces Committee chairman councillor Alison Wingfield said: “Our aim is to join with millions of people all over the country who are prepared to go out and do something about the litter on our streets. Everybody has a responsibility to keep our community tidy which will improve the quality of our street and public spaces.”

The campaign is organised by Keep Britain Tidy in conjunction with RSPB, CPRE and The Women’s Institute with financial support provided by McDonalds, Greggs, Costas and KFC.
