Sofas among items dumped in ditch at nature reserve

Dumped items including sofas, barbed wire and green plastic fencing are preventing Ongar Town Council from clearing vegetation from the ditch in the Jubilee Nature Reserve.

The council arranges for the ditch to be cleared annually but it has been impossible to complete the task due to the amount of rubbish strewn along the ditch.

Council money will have to be used to clear the items before the grounds' maintenance work can be completed.

Town council chairman councillor James Browning said: “I cannot believe that anyone would be so thoughtless as to dump large items of household rubbish in a nature reserve.

"Council funds are limited and it is very frustrating that money will have to be spent on clearing rubbish rather than on more beneficial projects.”
