Work underway to create community herb garden
Work is underway to transform part of the Market Garden area near the Marks and Spencer store in Epping into a herb garden.
The Epping in Bloom group is appealing for volunteers to go along at 10am on Friday, August 19, to help with some of the work.
The initial work will include laying a membrane and filling with gravel. Loose concrete and stones will be removed.
The area will feature raised floral beds and include a sensory pick-your-own herb bed.
A central top feature of the display will see a bay tree while the area will see rosemary, thyme and sage plants.
It is intended that several benches will be placed near the bed at a later date.
Epping in Bloom chairman Victoria Robertson said: "This will enable people to smell the feature as well as admire it and pick their own herbs.
"This central feature when planted with the edible herbs will instantly give the community a part of the garden."
The group is appealing for sponsors to come forward to help cover the cost of the work.
All sponsors will be recognised on a plaque at the community garden.
