Students set for MP's debating competition
A team from Roding Valley High School will be taking part in this year's Epping Forest Schools Parliamentary Debating Competition.
Six schools - Epping St John's, Davenant Foundation School, Chigwell School, Roding Valley High School, King Harold Academy and Debden Park High School - will be taking part in the competition organised by Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing.
The Motion to be debated is that "This House believes that the Government's 0.07 per cent ring-fenced budget for overseas aid should be reduced and the money saved should be spent in the UK".
The Roding Valley High School team of Eva Randall (Year 11) and Florence New (Year 10) will be speaking against the Motion.
English teacher Katie Bingham said: "This opportunity supports our students in becoming articulate, reflective and engaged citizens. It provides them with a platform to express their views on current, controversial topics."
Mrs Laing said: "The competition has traditionally generated great debate among the participating schools, and also from the audience.
"I hope that will again be the case this year and I look forward to listening to the arguments on both sides of the debate from our young public speakers."
The competition is being held at Epping St John's School on Friday, November 17.
