Council bans 'Golly' merchandise from market

Epping Town Council has decided to ban the sale of 'Golly' merchandise in Epping market.

It follows a complaint from a member of the public which was discussed by councillors on Tuesday evening.

Interim town clerk Beverley Rumsey said: "A complaint had been made about the sale of Golly merchandise in Epping Market.

"The council gave a lot of thought to the matter but while the sale of Golly merchandise is not illegal, the council takes all complaints seriously and judges each situation individually.

"It was agreed that there are negative connotations associated with Golly merchandise and the council would not support anything that caused offence.

"The trader would be asked not to sell the merchandise."
