From student projects to scientific expedition and real-world business, we are going to tell you how those amazing ideas get developed in Switzerland and then implemented in China.

China Hardware Innovation Camp
Launched in Switzerland, CHIC brought innovative students to Hong Kong and Shenzhen in order to immerse them into the hardware and manufacturing industry. A total of 15 selected students from EPFL, HEC Lausanne and ecal, with background in business, industrial design, programming, electronics and engineering had 30 days to come up with a product that they designed and built from scratch. Given the great success of the camp, the ideation of its 2nd edition will soon start in this October. “Race for Water Odyssey” was with us
Initiated by the Race for Water Foundation based in Lausanne, Switzerland, the “Race for Water Odyssey” (R4WO) began in Bordeaux (France) on March 15, 2015. The objective of this unique expedition is to conduct the first global assessment of plastic pollution in oceans by visiting island beaches situated in the 5 trash vortexes. On August 4th, R4WO came to Shanghai, one of its 21 stopovers around the world and share its stories with local public. swissnex China organized a scientific roundtable to bring the local experts with the crew to have an exchange on the current development of oceanic protection. A Swiss Startup Story in China
SCANTRUST, a new-born start-up with headquarters at EPFL in Lausanne has grown fast ever since it entered into the China market in 2013. Recently it announced a successful seed round of funding from investors to help scale up operations and build up products. On one hand, the market is so massive, more effort is required to extend the client pool, on the other hand, competition seems unavoidable, with a handful of new entrants who are aggressively working on their own technology solutions. As the VET (vocational) model of Switzerland continues to attract interest and to give a first hand experience of China to promising apprentices, we have launched a new program with the Canton of Neuchatel and the support of Swiss Center Shanghai. Please meet Melanie our first participant in the program (see below).

Hey, welcome on board!
Having a bachelor in business administration from the University of Applied Sciences HEIG-VD with a major in Marketing and Innovation, Sabine Boulos joined the team for a four months internship. As a Junior Project Leader, she will support various events related to innovation and higher education especially related with the canton de Vaud.  

After graduating from the business school of Neuchâtel, Melanie Girard joined our team in the beginning of September. With her commercial background, she will be assisting the team in various tasks in administration and operations. She will also support the project leaders for upcoming projects, and help with visiting delegations and cultural events. In addition to that she is helping the visiting students from her home province Neuchâtel, in order to help them facilitate the arrival and stay in Shanghai.

Having her last year in Digital Design in Shanghai Normal University, Ling LIN just joins the team in mid September and she will stay for 6 months. She is going to support communication projects with her excellent skills in graphic design and video production.

This October, swissnex China and venture lab, will bring the Swiss national startup team of 2015 - 10 selected startups that are active in multiple high-tech domains to an exciting business development trip to Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen in order to better understand the Chinese market and to seize business opportunities.
