EVENT | DRONE REVOLUTION: Impact-resistance for Inaccessible Places

Café des Sciences is swissnex China's brand-new lecture series giving spotlight to science and innovation. The free public lecture series will give attendees a glimpse into the innovative and impactful research and projects from Swiss scientists and start-ups in China. The lecture is scheduled to take place every third Thursday each month at swissnex China or our partner spaces. 
Flyability is a Swiss startup building safe drones for inaccessible places. By allowing drones to be used safely inside cities, inside buildings, and in contact with people, it enables new interactions and services with UAVs and solving the two most critical issues of one of the fastest growing industries: collision and injury risks.

RECAP|swissnex China Takes a Deep Dive into the Future of Logistics with S&TDC
January 14 | Cainiao Future Park, Wuxi

On January 14, swissnex China joined its peers from the Science & Technology Diplomatic Circle for its first event in 2019, which was a visit to Alibaba Group's Cainiao Future Park in Wuxi with the largest automated warehouse in China with over 700 robots. Its publicly stated goal for the next 5-10 years is to deliver to anyone in China within 24 hours and internationally in 72 hours. In 2018, it took 2.6 days to deliver the 1042 million parcels ordered during 11.11, the Singles Day.

RECAP|swissnex China Visits Landspace: A Pioneer in the Chinese Commercial Aerospace Industry
January 17 | Landspace, Beijing

On January 17, the swissnex China team joined its colleagues from the Section of Science, Education and Technology at the Embassy of Switzerland in Beijing for an insightful visit to the Beijing-based Land Space Technology Corporation Ltd., a pioneer in the Chinese private commercial aerospace industry that was founded in 2015 by Tsinghua University. LandSpace conducted the first Chinese private orbital launch on October 27, 2018 with its ZQ-1 rocket and is currently testing the ZQ-2, a medium-scale and low-cost commercial launch vehicle system. Learn more  ➠

RECAP|Successful Launch of the Café des Sciences Event Series with Deep Insights Into Shadow Banking

On January 23, swissnex China, in collaboration with the HEC Lausanne, organized an event focused on “Shadow Banking in China” with Prof. Ying Liu, Assistant Professor at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and an esteemed graduate of HEC Lausanne. It was also the launch of our new “Café des Sciences” event series. Prof. Liu gave an insightful presentation on the Shadow Banking System in China to an engaged audience. Learn more  ➠

RECAP|HEC Lausanne, EPFL and Zhejiang University Establish the China Economics and Finance Center
January 24 | Hangzhou

On January 24, swissnex China participated in an Innovation and Development Dialogue between Sino-Swiss Enterprises and the "Opening Ceremony of the China Economics and Finance Center" in Hangzhou (Zhejiang University). The center was been co-created by Zhejiang University in collaboration with HEC Lausanne and EPFL. The new center aims to generate new partnership between Switzerland and China. Learn more  ➠

Gabriel Bishop

New Junior Project Manager - Academic Relations

Gabriel is a Swiss citizen born in Geneva in 1991. He first came to China in 2014 to take part in an exchange program in International Commercial Law in the context of a Master of Law at the University of Fribourg. He then obtained a Master in China Studies in 2018 from Zhejiang University. His mother tongue is French, and he speaks English and German. He also followed a Chinese language program for a semester at the East China Normal University in Shanghai and is currently learning Italian. In his free time, Gabriel likes to escape to the nature, explore art exhibitions or practice yoga.
