swissnex China, officially representing Swiss Public Universities in China, will be holding the annual SWISS ALUMNI CHINA Soirée on May 24, 2019 in Shanghai. China counts about 3000 Alumni from Swiss Public Universities. Over 150 of them attended last year’s gathering, some traveling from Beijing, Hong Kong and other cities for this occasion. This gathering will be a great opportunity for Swiss University Alumni to stay connected, exchange job perspectives and be informed of the latest news from swissnex.  Learn more and register ➠

EXHIBITION|VR_I: A contemporary dance piece in Immersive Virtual Reality
May 9-12 / 15-18|Chronus Art Center (CAC), Shanghai

VR_I is a contemporary dance piece in immersive virtual reality created by Gilles Jobin and Artanim.  Equipped with virtual reality headsets, five visitors at a time will be able to freely navigate a real world inhabited by virtual dancers. Developed in association with Artanim, VR_I was presented at Sundance Film Festival 2018 & La Biennale di Venezia 2018, receiving the Innovation Award and the People’s Choice award at the Festival du nouveau cinema in Montréal 2017.

LECTURE|Passenger Republic: Insights into the DNA of Tommorrow's Mobility
Co-organized with the Graduate Union of the School of Transportation Engineering, Tongji University|May 15|Jiading

On May 15, Dr. Thomas Sauter-Serves, Program Director at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), will be giving a conference about the future of Mobility at the Jiading campus of Tongji University. The lecture will explain the various development paths that the trend towards connected cars and autonomous vehicles on vehicle design and deployment, urban planning and the overall transport system will have: key topics for the Chinese Belt & Road Initiative.
CAFE DES SCIENCES|Exploring Virtual Reality New Perspective on Contemporary Dance & Medical Training

On April 23, we had the immense honour of welcoming Mr Ueli Maurer, President of the Swiss Confederation and his top-level finance delegation to our Future of Money event organized by swissnex China. Keynote speeches by President Maurer and Mr Herbert Scheidt, President of Swiss Bankers Association were followed by a lively panel discussion with Dr Daniela Stoffel (State Secretary for Intl Finance), Dean Charles Chang (Fanhai Intl School of Finance, Fudan University), Dr Romeo Lacher (Chairman, SIX), Mr Peilung Li (Chairman, LUN Partners and Prof Thomas Puschmann (Director, Swiss FinTech Innovation Lab, University of Zurich). RECAP|25 Years in China with Daniel Heusser

On April 8, 2019, we had the pleasure to welcome the Swiss Architect Daniel Heusser for a Fireside Chat. After graduating in architecture from ETH Zurich, Daniel Heusser has worked as senior architect and project manager in China for 25 years, first in the role of the Vice General Manager of a Sino-Swiss Joint Venture company for Architecture and Urban Planning in Shijiazhuang and Beijing, and from the year 2003 onwards as founder and managing partner of Virtuarch in Shanghai.  Learn more  ➠

RECAP|Fashion Design Inspired by Architecture, Physics and Mathematics with Stephanie Tschirky

Our Café des Sciences event with held on April 18 with Swiss fashion designer Stefanie Tschirky saw a full-house turnout. Stefanie Tschirky presented her designs combining sharp lines with fluid contours with a wealth of slides and movies demonstrating her creativity and talent. After a lively Q&A session, the guests stayed 'til late during the networking reception and continued in-depth discussions with the Swiss designer.  Learn more  ➠

RECAP|April, Month of Academia!

April was an exciting month of academic activities at swissnex China as a number of delegations from Swiss Universities visited us in Shanghai, including the visit of EMBA School of Management Fribourg (incl. company visits and lectures), Haute Ecole de Santé Vaud HESAV, IEMBA Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and HFW Bern. swissnex China was also proud to represent the Swiss Public Universities at the Swiss Education Fair 2019 organized by Swiss Business Hub China. Learn more  ➠

  • EDUCATION Switzerland Remains #2 Worldwide in  Higher Education │ In the newly-released Universitas 21 Rankings 2019, the Swiss Higher Education system is ranked second overall (having held the position since 2015) after the US, and comfortably above the UK. May 20 | swissnex China

Maxwell Biosystems, a ETH-spin-off startup based in Basel, is launching their next-gen product "MaxTwo", a CMOS-based multiwell HD-MEA platform. To this end the startup is currently on a World Launch Tour across Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Boston, LA and Zurich. swissnex China is pleased to host the Shanghai workshop at our offices on May 20. The event will feature presentations from Maxwell Biosystems and demonstrations of their products: MaxOne and MaxTwo, including the new MaxLab Live software.

  • University of Geneva | Master of Advanced Studies in European and International Governance|Academic Year 2019-2020|The Master programme, organized by UNIGE in cooperation with the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), provides training in European and international governance.   • ArtTech Prize 2019 - Call for Startups|September  24|Cini Foundation, Venice|Deadline: May 6 ArtTech Prize, an initiative launched in 2017 to put together science and technology in the service of arts and culture, is launching the pre-selection process of candidates for its start-up competition, which will take place during the third ArtTech Forum on 24th September 2019 at the Cini Foundation, Venice. Eight start-ups, selected by a prominent international jury, will be invited by the Foundation to pitch in front of an audience consisting of culture and technology experts, and investors.
