EVENT|Sustainable Investment Along the Belt & Road: Comparative Perspective

CAFE DES SCIENCES|From Architectural Anthropology to Digital Fabrication

For the 7th Café des Sciences Lecture we will connect with two young architects graduated from ETH Zurich, and have a glance at two interdisciplinary research fields of architecture studies: architectural anthropology and digital fabrication. June 11-13| Shanghai New International Expo Centre

The #SwissTech Pavilion comprising 22 leading Swiss startups had a dynamic and intense three days of pitching, networking and showcasing their cutting-edge innovations today at CES Asia - the biggest tech expo in Asia! With the largest-ever country pavilion to date and featuring the CES ASIA awardees in 6 out of 20 categories, the 2019 edition of the Swiss pavilion at CES ASIA left no doubt as to Switzerland’s Number One position in Innovation.  Learn more  ➠
RECAP|Drone Racing @ Swiss Innovation Days
June 14|Embassy of Switzerland in China, Beijing

In collaboration with DGP, swissnex China organized the first-ever drone race at an Embassy during the Swiss Innovation Week at the Embassy of Switzerland in Beijing. The race unfolded during the evening as the race track is illuminated by LEDs and lights, allowing the public to experience a exhilarating spectacle. This exhibition match connects Swiss and Chinese pilots for a friendly drone race and was broadcasted via livestream on CCTV2 (more than 1.37 million viewers!) and CGTN. Stay tuned for more exiting highlights!

RECAP|Fireside Chat on Medtech with Urs Mattes

On June 4, Dr. Urs Mattes came to swissnex China for a presentation entitled Opportunities and Challenges in the Chinese Medtech landscape. Having lived in the region for two decades, Dr. Urs Mattes, Director Asia-Pacific at Cendres+Métaux SA, is a well-established University of Zurich alumnus in China. He has accumulated extensive cross-functional expertise and has been a board member of several medical and non-medical Swiss companies.  Learn more ➠

RECAP|Café des Sciences: Synthetic Biology & Bio-Art

Co-organized with Chronus Art Center, swissnex China presented the 6th Café des Sciences Lecture with the focus on Synthetic Biology. Prof. Mario Andrea Marchisio, Post – Doctor graduated from ETH Zurich gave a glance at his research on engineering microbes as living sensors. During his talk, he explained his research on realizing biosensors in the yeast S. cerevisiae and shared with us the outcome of the current research phase that anti-CRISPR proteins can work efficiently in S. cerevisiae cells. Learn More  ➠

RECAP|Young Swiss Talents Explore Chinese Innovation Landscape

In the scope of its academic activities, swissnex China often welcomes delegations from Swiss universities. At the end of May, we received two universities in our space and as always always it was a big pleasure to exchange with the dynamic students who came to China with great curiosity: We first welcomed 20 students from the MBA of the Berner Fachhochschule (BFH) on May 30 and on May 31, swissnex China received six highly motivated HESAV healthcare students specializing in fields such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Learn More  ➠

DELEGATIONS|In July we look forward to welcoming delegation visits from University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Italian Switzerland (SUPSI) EMBA & MTECH, HEID-VD as well as sabbatical visit from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).
  • RANKING|QS University Rankings|Swiss Universities have made significant gains in the newly-released QS University Rankings, led by ETH Zürich securing #6 spot in Top Ten - comfortably overtaking the University of Cambridge and claiming the position of #2 best university in Europe. EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, moved up an impressive 4 positions to #18. University of Zurich Switzerland's largest university, takes rank 76, +2 from the previous year. University of Geneva (#110), University of Bern (#123), University of Basel (#151) and University of Lausanne (#153) are also prominently listed amongst the top 200 best universities in the world. Learn more  ➠
  • RANKING |Switzerland - Top Innovation Leader Europe |The Regional Innovation Scoreboard (RIS 2019) is a regional extension of the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS 2019), assessing the innovation performance of European regions. Switzerland’s strong performance stems from being the best performer on seven indicators. In both the Human resources and Attractive research systems dimensions it has the best performance on two out of three indicators (New doctorate graduates and Lifelong learning, and International scientific co-publications and Foreign doctorate students).  Learn more  ➠
  • NEWS | Huawei Looking to Create 1000 Research Jobs in Switzerland |The Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei intends to create one thousand research jobs in Switzerland. In this context, Huawei is also looking to invest several hundred million Swiss francs in research centers. Learn more  ➠

  • PARTNER|Innokick Competition| 31 students from HES-SO Innokick Master program, together with 15 Chinese students of ShanghaiTech University will attend a competition organized by HES-SO and ShanghaiTech in the afternoon of July 7th. Dr. Felix Moesner Science Consul & CEO of swissnex China will join as jury at the event.
  • PARTNER|China Hardware Innovation Camp (CHIC)| EPFL's China Hardware Innovation Camp (CHIC) challenges students to go from a blank sheet of paper to the functional prototype of a connected device. In mid-July they fly to Southern China (Shenzhen and Hong Kong) to finalize the devices at a local prototyper’s factory (Seeedstudio) and pitch their projects in front of incubators, accelerators and Chinese makers. The final semester provides the opportunity to dig deeper into one dimension of the project (e.g., machine learning). Learn more  ➠
