RECAP|A new source of Innovation has emerged in southwest China

swissnex China was invited to attend the SSBICom (Sino-Swiss Business Incubation Competition). The SSBIcom gathered startups from the Zurich Area and gave the opportunity to the startups to present their company. On the following day happened the Opening Ceremony of SinoSwiss Technopark, which is to attract Swiss SMEs from a variety of industry sectors which, with the help of a Chinese partner, would like to find their way to the Southwest of China. RECAP|ETH Zurich Alumnus Basile Verhulst's lecture
December 14 | swissnex China, Shanghai

Organized by the ETH Zurich and EPFL Alumni Shanghai Chapters, the ETH and EPFL alumni gathered in Shanghai and listened to Basile Verhulst's story of his 16-months and 18’000 km long bicycle journey from Paris to Hong Kong. During his presentation, Basile told us some stories about the native people in different countries, about their culture, their language, and some funny facts. He mentioned that his two biggest problems during the trip were to find a place where he can put up his tent and to obtain the visas for the different countries. Learn more  ➠

RECAP|The future Landscape of Design
December 16 | HOW Museum, Shanghai

As a part of “The First World Symposium for Fashion. Jewellery. Accessories” (WoSoF). The conference was hosted by the College of Design and Innovation of Tongji University in Shanghai, in collaboration with Geneva School of Art and Design (HEAD – Genève) and other design institutions around the world. 17 speakers gathered in HOW Design Center to discuss the new trends of sustainability and digitalization in design and share their research projects about how these new contexts influence the curation and management. Learn more  ➠

  • NEWS  The ETH Domain Institutes rank third in a selection of international institutions in terms of the percentage of World Class patents in 17 technologies across the fields of data, materials, systems, Life Sciences and energy. The analysis also revealed that China has overtaken Europe in many technological domains when it comes to patents. Learn more  ➠
  • NEWS  Since the venture leaders China trip in September 2018, Cellestia Biotech AG has been able to gain traction with Chinese investors. In December, Cellestia successfully closes Series A financing round, raising a total of CHF 20 million. A significant portion of this round came from Chinese VC funds. Learn more  ➠
  • INTERVIEW In a recent interview, University of Zurich's Vice President Christian Schwarzenegger mentioned that the university is aiming at greater cooperation with China in science, clean energy, sustainable finance and medicine, including Chinese traditional medicine, pharmaceuticals, neuroscience, and cancer research. Learn more  ➠
