At CES Asia 2019 our primely-located, 300sqm Pavilion was joined by 22 startups, who were honored with a record 6 CES Innovation Awards. The #SwissTech Pavilion offers an ideal platform for Swiss startups to find  partners, funding and enhance visibility. A separate exclusive pitching event will be held with multi-$B investors. CES ASIA, in the same vein as CES Las Vegas, is the premier event for the consumer electronics industry, showcasing the latest innovation from all over the world. CAFE DES SCIENCES  |  Semiotics through New Media Art
November 21|swissnex China office, Shanghai

For the eleventh Café des Sciences, we have invited Andreas Gysin, a designer from Lugano, Switzerland and the current reseidency artist at Chronus Art Center. Semiotics is the study of sign process (semiosis), which is any form of activity, conduct, or any process that involves signs, including the production of meaning. A sign is anything that communicates a meaning, that is not the sign itself, to the interpreter of the sign. The meaning can be intentional such as a word uttered with a specific meaning, or unintentional, such as a symptom being a sign of a particular medical condition. Signs can communicate through any of the senses, visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, or taste. Mr Gysin will discuss his work on signage systems. Learn more and register ➠

EXHIBITION|Photo-Synthesis Exhibition @ TASIES 2019
November 02 - 28|National Museum of China

At the TASIES 2019 (The Tsinghua University’s Art and Science International Exhibition and Symposium), swissnex China supports the Photo-Synthesis Exhibition, a poetical series of artwork presented by Compáz that demonstrates solar energy from a technological as well as artistic perspective. The installations will be exhibited simultaneously at two spots in Beijing: first, at the TASIES 2019 at the National Museum of China; second, at the Art Factory Café in 798 Art Zone. EVENT|The Causes of Air Pollution in China and Ways to Reduce it

In collaboration with the ETH Alumni Shanghai Chapter, swissnex China has invited Dr. Li Yonghua, Director of New Energy at North China Electric Power University to present various causes of air pollution and ways to limit it through the use of emission-reducing technologies in the Chinese energy industry. Learn more ➠

RECAP|Art & Science Dualism
August 25|Chronus Art Center, Shanghai

Supported by Pro Helvetia and swissnex China, the educational program of the Open Codes exhibition at Chronus Art Center had its first speaker – Boris Magrini on August 25. Dr. Boris Magrini earned his PhD in art history at the University of Zurich. He is now a curator at HeK (House of Electronic Arts Basel), organizing exhibitions, performances, and talk-series that foster transdisciplinary dialogues between arts and sciences. Learn More ➠

On September 26, 2019, Sino-Swiss International Industrial Innovation Park (Changzhou) commenced operations in Changzhou National Hi-Tech District (CND), Jiangsu province, China. Changzhou National Hi-Tech District (CND) is located in the north part of Changzhou city, taking a central location in the Yangtze River Delta and enjoying a convenient transportation network. Mr. Bertran Sennwald, the Design Director at Shanghai Design Development, elaborated on his growth experience in Shanghai and introduced many of his intricate architectural projects. Among them are the unique facede design of Shanghai Yuanshen Financial Tower in Pudong Lujiazui; the future development of huge high-rise building projects in Wuhan; as well as a novel 3D chess system, Einsteinmill, designed to facilitate children’s critical thinking skill.  Learn More  ➠

RECAP|Meeting the Future - a Collaboration between HEAD, Tongji, Qingdao and SxV MoMA

On October 2, the Meeting the Future exhibition officially launched at Qingdao SxV MoMA. The opening entailed a round table discussion with Professor Sun Jie from Tongji University, Professor Elizabeth Fischer from Geneva School of Art and Design (HEAD), Professor Bogki Min from Seoul National University College of Fine Arts, new media artist Mr. Tian Xiao Lei, and Ms. Huan from London Fashion Museum — five exceptionally talented individuals from different cultures and regions of the world shared their opinions on art globalization as well as sustainability within the art space.  Learn More  ➠

RECAP|Swiss French-Speaking Alumni Event at the Confucius Institute at the University of Geneva

On October 8, the Confucius Institute at UNIGE hosted the fifth meeting of the Swiss French-speaking alumni in China. Gérald Béroud, President of the French-speaking section of the Swiss-Chinese Association, Béatrice Ferrari, Head of Bilateral Relations at the SERI and swissnex China representative, Jeyanthy Geymeier, representative of the Alumni Association of Lausanne University, as well as Basile Zimmermann, Director of the Confucius Institute, welcomed the thirty participants to this event. sinologists Estelle Niklès van Osselt of the Fondation Baur gave a speech on her experience as an alumna.  Learn More  ➠

RECAP|Café des Sciences: Lives in Our Water

On October 21, the tenth Café des Sciences: Lives in Our Water took place at the swissnex China office. Ms. Xueying Mao, the Chief Representative of rqmicro AG China Office, gave an exceptionally educational presentation on water safety and legionella detection technologies. rqmicro AG is actively working together with China CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) on a 2-year project to validate its innovative method for rapid Legionella and Salmonella testing in water samples. Learn More ➠

RECAP|Strong Interest in Switzerland's Education System
October 26-27|Fudan University & China Education Fair

On October 25, 2019 the European Education Fair took place at Fudan University, and on October 26 and 27, 2019 the China Education Expo took place at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center. Both events strengthened Switzerland’s competitiveness by drawing attention to its first-class universities. The two happenings were very successful, attracting top Chinese students to apply for a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD program at one of Switzerland’s leading institutions. Learn More ➠

WELCOME!|Marvin Grass
Junipr Project Manager Energy Innovation

Marvin finished his business and economics studies at the University of Bern last year. He then worked in Laos for 7 months for a research centre from Switzerland. Before starting his work for swissnex he came to China twice: for an exchange in Hong Kong and a one month language course at the University of Wuhan. Marvin is currently preparing for the Sino-Swiss Energy Innovation Forum (SSEIF) which will take place in Shanghai March 16 -18, 2020.
