November 3 - 9, 2019 | Hong Kong and Shenzhen

Venture Leaders Fintech 2019, co-organized by Venturelab and swissnex China, will take place from November 3rd to 9th and will include workshops, investors meetings and public events in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. CAFE DES SCIENCES  |  Lives in Our Water

For the tenth Café des Sciences, we have invited Xueying MAO, the Chief Representative of rqmicro AG China Office. Rqmicro AG, which stands for rapid and quantitative microbiology, is a spin-off of ETH Zurich and Eawag. To a great extend, you are determined by your own micro-biome, which is a sophisticated and unique system made up of trillions of microbes. Miss Mao will dive deep into the knowledge as well as the technology to unveil important questions such as: what are microbes? how many microbes are there in human body? why do we rely on microbes to live? Learn more and register ➠

September 28 - October 02|Shanghai & Qingdao

Supported by swissnex China, Professor Elizabeth Fischer, head of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Program in Fashion, Jewelry, Watches and Accessories at Geneva Institute of Art and Design, will come to China to attend a series of event aimed to establish future collaborations between The Geneva School of art and Design (HEAD- Genève), Tongji Design & Innovation College (D&I), and Qingdao University. Learn more ➠

EVENT|Third Conference on Interdisciplinarity in Translation and Interpreting
October 25 - 26|Shanghai International Studies University (Hongkou Campus)

swissnex China is organizing together with GIIT (Graduate Institute of Interpreting and Translation) of SISU (Shanghai International Studies University) the Third Conference on Interdisciplinarity in Translation and Interpreting themed Telescope or Periscope: An Interdisciplinary Look into the Future. Speakers from University of Geneva, University of Fribourg and ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences will attend the conference. Free registration within October 10th 2019 ➠

EXHIBITION|Open Codes. Connected Bots
July 20 - October 7 | Chronus Art Center (CAC), Shanghai

Supported by swissnex China, Pro Helvetia Shanghai and Vitra, the exhibition - Open Codes. Connected Bots is a new form of assembly, where knowledge production on making and understanding computer code and artistic approaches takes place at a single venue, which will transform CAC into a multifunctional new media and the art of coding laboratory. Co-presented by Chronus Art Center (CAC) and ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe while the public program consisting of talks and workshops is collaborated with House of Electronic Arts (HeK) in Switzerland. Learn more ➠

EXHIBITION|The Kind Stranger
August 23 - October 20|UNArt Center, Shanghai

Titled as “The Kind Stranger”, the exhibition aims to reflect and to some degree respond to the new conditions and scenarios of contemporary human society driven by the accelerating technological revolution. Over 30 international artists are exhibited in the show, among which the researcher – Rena Giesecke from ETH Zurich will also present her work - Wax drawing machine. Public talks and workshops will be arranged during the exhibition. Supported by swissnex China and Pro Helvetia Shanghai.

RECAP|Experimental Product Design
September 9|Neuni, Shanghai

In collaboration with Neuni Group, a digital design and fabrication lab, swissnex China supported the workshop and lecture by product designer Christophe Guberan to share his experience as an experimental designer. Christophe introduced his multiple experimental design projects, including how he engineers material in such a way that it transforms into complex daily objects, starting from Hydro-Fold, which transforms tracing paper from 2D to 3D. Learn More  ➠

RECAP|Swiss Startups Participated in China Innovation Workshop

Nine startups from Switzerland in the sectors of new energy, medical, drones, robotics, agriculture and electronics attended our “China Innovation workshop”. RECAP|Einstein Day @ Fudan University

We held our first Einstein Day at Fudan University for the students to know more about Swiss universities and innovation. We had the pleasure to have guest speakers from leading Swiss innovative companies to share their latest innovation: Philipp Fritschi, Director GF Food Technology Asia, Bühler Group; Dr. Martin Kusserow, Manager & Principal Engineer, Schindler Group EPFL Lab; Dr. Meng Chen Head of Biometrics, Roche Product Development Center in China; as well as Swiss Alumni Prof. Tianwu Xie, Associate Professor, Fudan University to share his experience in Switzerland.  Learn More  ➠

RECAP|Café des Sciences: The Invisible Growth of Food Tech
September 19|swissnex China, Shanghai

For our ninth Café des Sciences, we have Fabian Graf, Co-founder and CEO of the food technology startup Faitron. Mr. Graf gave an exceptionally interesting presentation on the new trend Food 2.0 and its connection to his entrepreneurial development. The audiences showed immense interests and asked questions ranging from the technologies and patents, to the reasoning behind certain designs. Learn More ➠

WELCOME!|Suyao Ao
PR & Communications Coordinator

Suyao has master’s degrees in English Translation and Interpreting from Beijing Foreign Studies University, and in Arts Management from SDA Bocconi, Italy. She has worked for four years in PR agencies serving clients from varied industries including technology clients such as Amazon, Microsoft, Qualcomm, SAP etc. During her stay in Italy, Suyao has also worked for TorinoFilmLab, a film professional training program associated with Torino Film Festival. Suyao is passionate about films and performing arts.

WELCOME!|Niccolò Schlueb 
New Junior Project Manager, Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Niccolò has completed his bachelor studies in international affairs at University of St. Gallen. Having taught English in rural China and studying for a semester at Fudan University of Shanghai, he returned to China aspiring to deepen his understanding of the Chinese market and forge connections to Switzerland’s most innovative startups. Next to university, Niccolò was a board member of the student-run association PIECES and developed a passion for education while part-time teaching middle school classes. Niccolò is passionate about sports, particularly football which he played for over fifteen years.

WELCOME!| Florian Moeri
New Junior Project Manager

Florian was born in 1994 in Bern. After secondary school he went on to do the academic baccalaureate. With a particular interest in social and political issues, he chose his subjects accordingly, keeping them as broad as possible: philosophy, psychology, pedagogics and religious studies. Following four semesters of law at the University of Bern, he began an apprenticeship at the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). There, Florian was able to work in the areas of IT and Logistics, VPET Policy, Communication and Finances. In his free time, he likes sports, globetrotting and playing the drums.

PARTNER| FHNW Swiss-Asian MBA Program

The Swiss-Asian MBA is based on the existing MBA programme of FHNW (University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland) (90 ECTS; European Credit Transfer System), but now set-up as a blended learning MBA. The MBA programme at FHNW is ongoing since 1992 with several intakes per year.The Swiss-Asian MBA e-learning parts, including webinars and virtual classrooms, will be interactive.
