THIS WEEK: Tackling Topics Affecting Youth
 

RTSD is hosting several events and initiatives in the coming months to educate parents and young adults on important and serious topics affecting today's students, including mental health, vaping, and drugs and alcohol, as well as to encourage open and honest conversation.
 
Community Focus Group on Student Wellness, Oct. 16
Community members are invited to a focus group session to discuss the district's ongoing student of Student Wellness on Wed., Oct. 16 from 9-10 a.m. at the RTSD Administration Building. More information on the Student Wellness Study here

SpeakUp! at Radnor Middle School, Oct. 16
Area middle school students and their parents are invited to SpeakUp! at RMS on Wed., Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. (check-in begins at 6 p.m.). Pre-registration is requested here.  More details available in the RMS section below.

Radnor Educational Foundation has planned a poker event to raise money for the Neighbors Helping Neighbors program, a program dedicated to helping families facing a disruption in their ability to meet basic life needs. RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL

Led by RHS students and staff, the entire Radnor community got Radnor Proud during a "High School Musical"-themed LM Week. The football team ended the week-long celebration on Oct. 12 with a 49-6 win over LM. Stay tuned for more photos.

"Teen Vaping, It's Not Just a Mist," Oct. 18 

The RHS Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK) invites the RTSD community to "Teen Vaping, It's Not Just a Mist" on Fri., Oct. 18 at 9 a.m. in the RHS Black Box Theatre. Registration is requested here.

The program will involve discussion regarding the ways young people are being impacted by vaping and ways they can be helped to break away from various external pressures. Vaping can involve flavored liquids, nicotine, or cannabis. Attendees will learn about the implications of each, the dangers of vaping among teens, the types of vaping devices, and where youth are getting the vaping paraphernalia.
Class of 2020: Deadline for Transcript Requests If you are applying to college Early Action/Decision with a deadline of Nov. 1, you must request your transcript on Naviance by Oct. 15. Note: Your counselor has 10 school days to send your academic records and letter of recommendation from the date of request, so please make sure you’re getting all transcript requests in well ahead of any deadlines.
PSATs are Wed., Oct. 16 for all students in grades 9-11. Student Guides will be distributed in homeroom for grades 10 and 11. On test day, students must report to homeroom or their pre-assigned testing space at 8:30 a.m. with sharpened #2 pencils and a calculator.
Euterpe Music Group is hosting its first Open Mic Night on Thurs., Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Black Box. See Mrs. Perez in guidance or senior student Amia Korman to sign up. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
Attention Squash players or those interested in the sport: The interest meeting for RHS Squash is Thurs., Oct. 17 in room 101 during community period. Come hear about varsity and junior varsity opportunities for boys and girls. We play and practice at S2 (formerly Fairmount Athletic Club) in King of Prussia from Nov. 3 through late February. 
College admissions reps visit RHS during the day to meet with juniors and seniors. The schedule is available on Naviance. Note: You can miss class to attend a college visit but must communicate with your teacher ahead of time via screen shot of registration confirmation page. 
Senior Drop In Days Not sure how to request transcripts or teacher recommendations? Need help sending SAT/ACT scores? Curious about a gap year? Counselors will hold Drop In Days in the library conference room through the fall. Click here to view the schedule.

Learn to Cheer The Radnor Cheerleaders and coaching staff are hosting their annual fall clinic on Sun., Oct. 20 from 2-4 p.m. at RHS. K-8 students are invited to participate in an afternoon to practice proper technique for basic motions, jumps and stunting. At the end of the session, parents/guardians are invited back to the gym for a small performance of everything our rock star students learned! RMS Mini-THON is hosting a fundraiser at Panera Bread in Wayne on Thurs., Oct. 24 from 4-8 p.m. Bring a paper or electronic copy of this flyer and a portion of the proceeds will support the Four Diamonds Fund. 
RMS Flu Clinic is Fri., Nov. 8. Permission forms were sent home on Oct. 11. Only students and staff who submit a permission form will be allowed to receive a flu vaccine. 
Join Reading Olympics 6th, 7th, or 8th grade students interested in Reading Olympics should complete the online sign-up form or pick up a paper copy in the library. ITHAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Health Screenings State-mandated screenings for height, weight, vision and hearing will take place at IES on Mon., Oct. 14 and Wed., Oct. 16. Children should wear or bring their eyeglasses on those days. Click here to learn more.
Ithan Field Day & BBQ Lunch is Tues., Oct. 15 (rain date: Oct. 17). The morning session (Grades 3-5) is 9:20-11:20 a.m. and the afternoon session (Grades K-2) is 12:45-2:45 p.m. All students are invited to purchase a BBQ lunch. Families can create an EZSchoolPay account or send cash in an envelope. Students are encouraged to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle. There will be a Whole School Assembly at 2:50 p.m.

Community Outreach The Community Outreach Committee is currently collecting gently used winter clothing for children, newborn-12 years, to be donated to Cradles to Crayons. Donation boxes outside the office through Mon., Oct. 28.
Ithan Notepads, Magnets, & Field Trip Shirts Need to send a note to your teacher? You can buy a yellow Ithan notepads for $4/each in the office. Also, show your Ithan pride with an IES car magnet in Radnor Maroon for $5/each. Maroon field trip shirts are also available in the office for $10.

Come One, Come All - The Circus Has Arrived at RES! 

Visiting circus artists from the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts will join the students and staff of RES for a week-long residency during regularly scheduled PE and wellness classes, Oct. 14-18.

The Book Fair is Coming Mark your calendars for the annual Book Fair in the WES Little Theater, hosted by the WES PTO: Sun., Oct. 20-Fri., Oct. 25. During the week, students will visit the fair with their homerooms and parents are welcome to shop during open hours. Trunk or Treat Join the WES PTO on Fri., Oct. 25 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the WES parking lot for some Halloween fun! We need Trunks and candy! We will accept sealed bags of nut-free candy in designated bins in the WES Main Office. Contact Melissa Adams or Lisa Ross for more information. The Running Bee is Back Get Warm with the Swarm and sign up for the 4th Annual WES Running BEE 5K Run/Walk! The race is Sun., Nov. 10. The 1 mile fun run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Run at 9 a.m. Prizes for all grade level male/female winners! Spelling Bee Club is open to all WES 3rd-5th Graders, but registration is required and spots are limited to the first 20 students. Club starts Mon., Nov. 11 and runs every Monday after school until 5pm. The Bee uses www.myspellit.com, a guide that is divided into sections by language of origin of the word. Last year two of our 4th-graders made it through multiple rounds of the county competition in Media! Click here to register.

RECENTLY IN RTSD

Congrats, Luke Hondros and Annabel Zhao! The two seniors (center) were crowned Homecoming King and Queen at halftime of the football team's win over LM on 10/12. Thank you to the entire court for your school spirit and Radnor pride!: King nominees Aidan Giacomucci, Chapin Lenthall-Cleary, Regal Noye and Cole Schwartz and Queen nominees Barbara Civitella, Ellie Mueller, Jillian Scheuerle and Mehek Thapar.
RHS football alumni, affectionately known as the "Has-Beens," joined current players for lunch on Oct. 10.
RHS students decorated the hallways for this year's LM Week celebration and participated in a series of Spirit Days.

Helen Hu Selected to All-National Honor Ensembles

The RHS senior was selected by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) to perform with the 2019 All-National Honor Symphony Orchestra in November. She plays violin in the RHS orchestra. Click here to read more.

Girls Tennis bested WC Henderson in the 2nd round of the District 1 team tourney. They take on #3 Downingtown West in the semifinals on Oct. 14.
