I've taken extended Pop Loser breaks before, usually when things get a bit crazy and my time gets too short to carve out time for this. During those periods, I usually have an idea when I'll be able to get back to it, so I just disappear for a bit like it's no big deal, because it isn't. That's how it's been for the last eleven years and you've all been cool about it.

This time, I'm not sure how long PL will be on hiatus or if I'll ever get back to it. That's still not a big deal, at least for you, but I wanted to let you know.

So what's taking so much time?

Well, I wrote a book. I've occasionally referred to "my novel" here, usually jokingly, but it was real and I finished it and now someone wants to publish it. Which, like, wow, right? Anyway, it's called Searching for Terry Punchout (that may change—feelings are decidedly mixed on the title) and it'll be released by Invisible Publishing in like 12 to 18 months.

This means I need to focus my attention on editing and promoting and doing all the things (I'm now learning) come after you finish writing a novel, which all have much stricter deadlines than actually writing a novel.

The thing about Pop Loser is that I like making it. I've been doing this blog-turned-newsletter for over a decade—long enough that I can't imagine not doing it at all. So what's my plan? I don't know. For now, it's to take an extended break to do the things that need doing. Then I'm hoping we can just pick up where we left off in a few months, or I'll figure out a new format that doesn't eat up so much of my time. Stay subscribed—I won't harass you with other emails and when I'm ready to get going again you'll be the first to know.

But if that doesn't happen—if this is it for whatever PL is or was or whatever—I wanted to say thank you, especially those of you that would exchange emails with me every week about all my bad opinions on technology, culture and media. I've really loved doing this and while the audience has always been small, I've always appreciated that you each took the time.
