The Year of the Horse
How time travels on, and we move deeper into the season of Autumn.
This is the time when the yang/warmth of the sun is lessening and giving way to the yin/cooler seasons. We must begin to shore up vital energy for the cold winter months ahead, and what better way than to cultivate the "fire" within with our Hua Gong practice.
When we get in touch with the Qi we become aware of the subtle insubstantial nature of the body and metaphorically it is as if a small fire has been ignited within. At first it is tentative, and accompanied by an extrusion of smoke and damp from the body, as the chaotic unbalanced energy is transformed. Eventually with practice and further transformation the ignited fire strengthens and stabilizes until we reach the stage of the "flameless fire".
From this stage the alien, depleting and disorganised elements are burned away and we become rejuvenated, stronger and ever increasing in vitality.
Thus, we have the keys to maintaining our vigour and to living a healthy long life.
This month's Qi Calligraphy from Zhixing is called the Flower of the Heart
. We are advised to meditate on this image regularly and it will help the heart centre to remain open and connect to the cosmic Qi.
"This is an image of the heart which looks like a fully opened flower with petals. It implies a flourishing life full of love and joy. There is a sensuality and vulnerability and we can almost smell the scent. It also looks like the eyes indicating the wisdom of the heart. It is through the heart that we reach clarity."
