The Year of the Horse

November 2014

Greetings Subscriber

How the year of the Horse is moving on, and we are in November already!
We have Just emerged from the Cloudy Dragon retreat and a wonderful nourishing weekend of Hua Gong in Devon.
One theme which Zhixing constantly reminds us, is the need to remain "tuned in" or "connected".  We are reminded that as Hua Gong students we need to keep the life line connection to the Cosmic Qi.

In a casual random state we are as a mobile phone in the basement...without a signal.  It is not that the signal is not there,  it simply cannot find us.  We are in a random, disorganized state energetically.  Without the "signal" we are not connecting to the "root" of our lives where the real nourishment comes from.  However once we are connected a "watering" takes place at all levels and like a plant we can flourish in time, usually very quickly.  We need to respond to the watering and keep it going by doing our own practice.
Responding to the Transmission (watering) and doing our own practice is the key....

Below is a Qi Calligraphy image from Zhixing for this month.  It is possible to tune into the Transmission embedded in it by looking at it and responding naturally.  You may begin to feel the energy, to feel warmth, to change your breathing or to experience emotions arising.  All or any of these effects  indicates that you are entering a Qigong state initiated by the Qi Calligraphy.

Ling like Qi is an importantt concept in the Chinese Spiritual Tradition.   There are two old sayings which give a good illustration of the meaning of Ling.
1. "Everything  has Ling" (awareness/consciousness).  When we tune in to the Qi we can feel the connection with animals, with plants and even with metal and stone.
2. "Three feet above the head there is Ling (God/Spirit) watching."    When we enter the Qi state we can feel the presence of the human spirit and the "eye of the cosmos" is watching us.
