The 2012-2013 School Year is Officially Underway!

Fill Your Carts at Whole Foods THIS THURSDAY!
Everyone who shops at Whole Foods - Georgetown (2323 Wisconsin Ave. in Glover Park) on September 20th helps raise money for art supplies your children will use throughout the year.  Whole Foods will donate 5% of that day's proceeds to Fillmore Arts Center.

ALSO, keep your eyes peeled because the cafe area will have an exhibit of Fillmore students' artwork up from September 10th until the end of the month

AND don't forget to come by to say "Hi!" Friends of Fillmore folks will be at a table from 11am to 7pm letting people know what a great resource we have in Fillmore and from 4-5pm Fillmore teacher, Glenna Johnson, will do a "Printmaking with Food" art activity, SO bring the kids over!

Remember to tell all your local friends and family too because ANYONE who shops at that Whole Foods location on that day will contribute to the total, so they don't have to know anything about Fillmore to help!

We Met Our Goal!! (Well, almost...)
The Friends of Fillmore tied for first place in the Green Neighborhood Energy Challenge with 20 new sign-ups (our goal was 25)!  This allowed Fillmore to receive a donation of over $600 dollars and those 20 families now using wind power is equal to 31 cars being taken off the road for a year or planting 34 acres of pine forests!

Thanks to the Stoddert families (Davis, Hill, and Eller), Key families (Lindstrom and Kaplan), and Ross families (Stack and Markus) who joined up with Clean Currents to now power their homes with clean, green wind power.  Ask them how easy it was to join because we are going to join the Energy Challenge again in OctoberBuilding a better future for your kids can begin with this simple step!

Thanks also to these folks that I couldn't match up with any particular Fillmore participating school: Bauduy, Coulon, Fuh, Pierce, Abramson, Granos, and Holaday.

More Funding Updates
Last Spring at our Arts Show we raffled off two fabulous prizes:  a custom portrait painting created by Friends of Fillmore rep and Stoddert parent, Jamie Caplinger, and a long, luxurious massage from the Spa Room.  I am happy to report that we raised close to $250 from our mini-raffle!  Congrats to our winners:  Mark Manuszak from Hyde (portrait) and Leigh McKenna (massage).

Thanks to the work of our request-writers, Friends of Fillmore rep Anne Masters and Fillmore teacher Maggie Meenehan, the Friends of Fillmore also received a generous donation of almost $1500 from the Palisades Community Fund earlier this year.  Ms. Meenehan will use these funds to acquire materials and supplies to assist Fillmore students in learning the arts, especially dance, as she teaches that subject.

And a BIG SHOUT-OUT to the many Key families who have made donations to the Friends of Fillmore since the start of the school year.  Thus far these donations total over $800 and are speeding us to reach our goal to meet the Cafritz Foundation match which ends on September 30th.  Don't get left in the dust other participating school families, make your tax-free contributions soon!  You can easily make your donation online, just visit our Donate page and PayPal will do the rest!
