Queridos y Queridas Alumni,

As September is quickly coming to an end, let’s recap all that has happened since our last Alumni Newsletter in early August:
123 students have now arrived in Costa Rica. Watch a vlog by Louis ‘21 as he shares his journey from Germany to Costa Rica.
Daniella '21 from Uganda shares her experience starting the year from home due to travel restrictions and other logistical challenges.
As per our COVID-19 travel protocols, students isolate for 14 days in a hotel near the airport before arriving at UWC Costa Rica.  Watch as René gives us a peek into this very unique experience.
What was it like to have a virtual Orientation?  Click to watch the recording of an Orientation activity and continue reading below to hear an alumna's experience planning Orientation.
Watch our virtual – in-person blended model Independence Day Parade and the UWC Day Show.  Stay tuned to our FB Group and email for future events!
Congratulations to Nitai Agnon ’12 and the Virtual Alumni Reunion Planning Crew for a great program.  Check out the school update we shared.
We've received requests from alumni for a virtual campus tour to see our latest changes. Our students created a virtual tour of our Campus and of Santa Ana as part of the Orientation Starter Package for incoming students and parents.
On August 13, our very own Jeff Norris (Biology teacher), Dilly Hoyt '15, and Feven Gatachew '20 participated in a webinar titled "Conservation through Education"  with the Global Network of Environmental Affairs.
Big or small, giving your TIME, TALENT and TREASURE to the UWC movement paves the way forward for future generations of UWC students and helps us increase the impact and reach of the UWC mission world-wide.

A huge thank you to Fju Mewes ’18, Hannah Beck ’19, Seren Keskin ’13, and Gizem Guner ’08 for offering their support to students that faced unexpected challenges in their travel back to Costa Rica.  Thank you for showing our students, parents, and staff that we truly are a global family!
Ways YOU can give forward
TALENT: Our Residential Life team is launching a new Wellness Series where alumni offer a virtual 30-minute workshop on any theme related to, wellness, mental and physical health, or wellbeing followed by a 30-minute Q&A.  Would you like to participate?  Email rene.sandoval@uwccostarica.org or marianela.ramirez@uwccostarica.org for more information or to sign-up.

TIME: Reach out to your National Committee and offer your support –many of them are already starting the selection of the Class of 2023 and they need all the help they can get to offer a unique and transformative application experience despite COVID-19.

TREASURE: Like so many, UWC has faced unprecedented challenges in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and we need to be more united than ever before to keep providing life-changing experiences.  Join the #UWCNeedsYouNOW Campaign and make a gift to UWC Costa Rica or to your National Committee.
¡Tomémonos un cafecito! ☕️
Starting on October 5, we will open a new weekly space where you –our alumni! –are invited to join and have a chat with the Alumni Coordinator and other special guests.  Every week this space will happen on a different day and at different times.  Add this Google Calendar to keep track of this opportunity and all other UWC Costa Rica Alumni Events.
For example, in these Cafecitos we can:
  • Learn more about what is happening at the school right now and our plans for the future.
  • Ask specific questions.
  • Share feedback and ideas to improve our Alumni Engagement program.
  • Share stories and memories about UWC Costa Rica.
  • Just have a nice conversation!
We look forward to seeing you at a Cafecito!
