I'm excited to share that right now is the launch of my Young Writers' StorySchool, a project I've been working on for months, dreaming about for years and you are the first to know that it has just gone live. More on StorySchool below.

It's been a busy time, creatively. It's NanoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and I'm writing the second draft of a new middle-grade novel and documenting the process online.

Detention has just won the YABBA (VIC) and KOALA (NSW) Children's Choice Book Awards. I'm finishing off the final touches on my Ginger Meggs 100th anniversary book, out May 2021. And the TV projects seem to be moving along nicely.

I hope you enjoy the news below. Have a great week!

Young Writers' StorySchool
My online video writing masterclass for school and home launches right now! It is 24x3-minute videos on different aspects of the writing process, showing how I do it and setting a challenge for young writers. You can subscribe as an Individual (for keen kid or emerging adult writers) or as a School (multi-teacher licence for the classroom). Watch the 1-minute trailer!
Detention Wins YABBA & KOALA Awards
So proud to see Detention win the YABBA (VIC) and KOALA (NSW) Children’s Choice Book Awards alongside winners in other categories by Aaron Blabey, Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton, Anh Do and Jules Faber, Andy Lee and Heath McKenzie. Read more and watch acceptance speech.
StorySchool Launch Offers!
The special launch offer for Individual subscriptions is 25% off. Perfect for a keen young writer. For schools, if a current subscriber to this newsletter subscribes to StorySchool for their school in the next week, I will send you three of my books, signed! Email
I'm in the middle of a month-long writing sprint with three other writers – Dani Vee, Adrian Beck and Julianne Negri. We're each writing drafts of new books as part of National Novel Writing Month (NanoWriMo) and each week we document our progress on Twitter (much banter, support and, occasionally, slander) and on the brilliant Words and Nerds podcast.
Room to Read Donation Matching
For a limited time, a generous donor is matching every single dollar donated to world-changing literacy charity, Room to Read. It's been a difficult year for many but if you have a belief in equality in literacy or you're looking for a way to make a donation go as far as it possibly can, jump in now!
