Super Size Me

Remember the 2004 documentary?  Who can forget it - one man guinea-pigging himself for the sake of science, and truth.  Epic indeed.

Is your golf game wallowing at undersized proportions?  Playing & practicing, yet stagnation occurring on the scorecard (maybe you need to digest a good helping of Train2Trust..)?  Is your head stuffed full of information (please consider the source) coming from every conceivable direction, just as filmmaker/subject Morgan Spurlock's trap is, of french fries, above?

I understand.  It's why I offer in-person, and remote coaching, to players of all levels.  Purging of swing thoughts (we need cues & feels that put our mind/body system in a state of receiving information - not sending it).  Cleansing of concepts that are based in iffy science, highly questionable theories, or just irrelevant to you.  Clarification and enlightenment on the cause and effect aspect of your golf ball's behavior, and your on-course performance.

Interested?  Click on the poster above for details.

Today's super-sized headliner on the PGA Tour is of course none other than golf's self-appointed (how would he fair in a physics class at Southern Methodist University - his collegiate academic institution - anyway?) scientist, Bryson DeChambeau (below, before and after dietary & workout adjustments).

The surname Dechambeau is derived from the Old French word "champ," which means field, and literally means "of the fields."  And champion of the PGA Tour golf fields in Detroit last week Bryson was, annihilating drives with his newfound bulk and speed, and winning by three shots.

Talk of The Town

DeChambeau certainly is of the PGA Tour, and much of Golflandia.  Forever changing the game?  Hulking up on the up-and-up - or digesting some magic fries to help the cause? Pushing the envelope on vaccinating the golf ball?  Great fodder for linksters within the good 'ole US of A (BANG BANG: a very happy belated 4th), and beyond.

Now then: if you wish to ponder all of the aforementioned, how about turning the volume UP on your precious device, and taking a good listen to the fantabulous offering from Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders.  Click above, then c'mon back CS' way for some insight on how best to super size your very own golf game - in a way that best fits you.

"Everybody heard
It was the talk of the town
"

Loudest.  Voice.  Wins.  'Tis the way on SM - and all media for that matter. Never mind the legitimacy, right?  Never mind the credibility, eh? Never mind the facts, huh?

Voilà a non deep fake factoid: Bryson DeChambeau's sheer commitment to improving his golf, and belief in his ways & system, can only be commended.  And who's laughing now..??

What about you?  Committed to the process, or forever in search of a quick fix?  Do you believe in the path you have taken (and the competency and genuine care of your golf guide) to improve your swing and overall game, or are you wallowing in doubt?

Do think if you look better, you might just play better?  Interesting aesthetic & energetic hypothesis... If so, click on the smiling and trophy-hoisting Bryson above for some offerings from my peeps at Nike Golf.

"It's not my place to know what you feel
I'd like to know but why should I?
"

"If you can't feel it, you can't heal it."  Whether that be golf swing, or an emotion that may not be helping your performance.  And, what your feel is exactly that: YOURS.  Where and how in the body you feel something new in your motion is unique to you, and only you.  It doesn't matter what some fancy, smooth-talker wants to call it, the sensation belongs to you.  When that feels matches up with what your golf guide is helping you to find - BIN-GO.

In motor-learning 'speak' it's known as creating an internal model.  So what?  So... if your internal model (your feel) doesn't match up with your coach's external model (most teaching), learning fails.  Did you get that, friends: learning fails.  You come to a lesson for help - to expedite learning - hence if that's not happening, why bother?

In fact, it is the place of a true golf guide to understand and relate to what you feel, then nourish that feel while keeping one's ego, preferences and biases out of the equation and relationship.

"Oh but it's hard to live by the rules
I never could and still never do
The rules and such never bothered you
You call the shots and they follow"

Rules - what would our beloved game be without them?  Made to be broken (go ahead on the links: you shall be disqualified), or to be followed? It depends, of course...

Seems this is an ongoing issue in our country re "'Rona Rules" and in the process, creating more and more angst, aggressiveness and anxiety between the already stressed humans.  A lack of discipline and respect?  Perhaps - and are those not two supreme qualities of golf we so cherish?

And what about some smarty pants' 'golf swing' rules?  You "must" do this.  You "have to" do that.  "Everyone" does blah blah blah.  Really?  Sounds like another stuffing of highly questionable info into your noggin.'  But alas, don't believe CS, let the picture below, of our foursome that teed it at Seminole a few moons back, speak those 1,000 or so words...

DONATING = CARING

Nearly every week since late 2014, I’ve poured a tremendous amount of time, energy, and resources into the “CS Newsletter” offerings, which remain free.  While many in my vocation have chosen other mediums to communicate (and hopefully help golfers, and humans, alike), I continue to opt for the written word, blending pieces of music, pertinent videos and articles.  The intention: to authentically guide you - my fellow wanderers of the links and life’s daily sidewalks - on more fruitful paths.

If you find any solace or motivation from my ongoing labor or love, or if on occasion a message has managed to put a smile on your face, a tear in your eye, inspirited you take a step back and reconsider all for a moment - or even peeved you into positive action - please do consider supporting it with a donation.  Should you already donate, I THANK YOU.

Click on a soon-to-be reading and writing CS, just north, to contribute.

Confused?  Good - I've succeeded in my task of opening your eyes, mind & spirit;).

As Chrissie Hynde shared in her lyrics: "You call the shots and they follow."  The 'they' in this instance being the individuals involved with guiding you towards better golf and deeper enjoyment.  Those guides must be willing and able to adjust & adapt to your individual wants and needs.  Your perfect imperfections.  Your ever-so unique way of seeing, feeling and interpreting things.  As opposed to filling you up with pseudo-scientific bunk, biases, or the like.

Enter moi... I offer remote and in-person coaching options at Eugene Country Club and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club (periodically, in season).  The development of an optimal practice regime for you, your needs, and your schedule.  Ideas and referrals in the equipment domain - those sticks in your bag, and your physical body.  Science and experienced-based help in achieving higher mental acuity on the course.  A competent, comprehensive and on-going loop for learning, regardless of where you are on the planet.
