I Am the Night - Color Me Black

Today's Black Friday title taken from yesteryear - yet another unforgettable original Twilight Zone offering, circa 1964.

My how time flies, and some things never change (like physics, in what determines how your golf ball travels)...  Stubborn, and so very set in our ways & mindsets us humans - in our golf and golf swings, and upon life's daily sidewalks.

Click above for the last 3:45 of this memorable offering, for some enlightenment on the dark day.  The peeps pictured above..?? Flesh-eating zombies?  Nope.  Invading monsters from another galaxy disguised as bi-peds?  Nah.  An anxious and angry, early-arriving golf crowd having to wait out a frost-delay?  Not even.

Rather, a random group of human beings, all sharing a truly devastating emotion.  Are you legitimately aware of the sheer power of emotions during a round of golf, and your go around in this existence?  I wonder...

Do your emotions help, or hinder you, on the course?  I can help with direction there, and in other aspects in your game.  Click below for details.

"A sickness known as hate. Not a virus, not a microbe, not a germ—but a sickness nonetheless, highly contagious, deadly in its effects. Don't look for it in the Twilight Zone—look for it in a mirror. Look for it before the light goes out altogether"

Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling's truth bomb dropped at the end of this episode.  Amen, brother & sister passengers of Spaceship Earth - whether you care to acknowledge it, or not.

Emotion bombs come your way incessantly in the golf park when you're out there doing your best; are you able to detonate them appropriately - or do they consume you - and blow up perfectly good walks on the grass in the fresh air?

Emotion: Anger.  Oohh.  Aahh.  'Bad,' right?  Not at all my feisty friends, as long as the anger is used to alert, inspire and enliven you.  A kick in your own pants can be valuable at times, not to beat yourself up, but rather to bring things to your attention.  For you see, more often than not you are in an unconscious trance of sorts (see crowd pictured at top), hypnotized into past habits, patterns and beliefs.  And BTW, did you know that anger is there to protect & serve you by nature, not harm, you?

Emotion: Disgust.  A reaction (try responding, instead - something that big pre-frontal cortex of yours allows you to do..) to unpleasant, unwanted, or undesirable situations.  You know, those bad breaks and unfair scenarios that take you out of your comfort zone (like what you look in a mirror).  And beware: disgust of yourself can be more harmful than a lynching.  Remember: it's not my (or anyone else's, for that matter) job to like you, it's yours.

Emotion: Fear.  The big bad wolf him/herself, eh?  Whatcha so afraid of, anyway, boys & girls?  Something that might happen?  Hitting one of your precious nuggets into the water, into the trees, or out-of-bounds?  Wow, talk about living in the twilight zone... Like with Mr. Serling's aforementioned truth bomb, take a good, hard, sincere look at what is happening (factual), and what could (counter-factual) happen, and you'll notice a rather large gap.

Man... Debbie Downerism emanating from CS HQ this turkey-coma recovery day, you're thinking, eh?  Quite the contrary!

Lighten up already... A dash of tough love my kindred spirits of the links and the land - replete with a twosome of positive, upbeat solutions:

1.  Fuel, nurture and cherish those emotions that give & bring you energy; extinguish, stamp out and eliminate those that rob you of your precious life force.

2. Replace the hate, with the love.  Today courtesy of our Trinidadian-German Eurodance artist Haddaway.  You know the routine: click on his 1993 debut album cover just above, turn volume UP, close eyes & listen - and take a few moments to relish the fact that you can indeed control your emotions, so they do not control you...

Nearly every week since late 2014, I’ve poured a tremendous amount of time, energy, and resources into the “CS Newsletter” offerings, which remain free.  While many in my vocation have chosen other mediums to communicate (and hopefully help golfers, and humans, alike), I continue to opt for the written word, blending pieces of music, pertinent videos and articles.  The intention: to authentically guide you - my fellow wanderers of the links and life’s daily sidewalks - on more fruitful paths.

If you find any solace or motivation from my ongoing labor or love, or if on occasion a message has managed to put a smile on your face, a tear in your eye, inspirited you take a step back and reconsider all for a moment - or even peeved you into positive action - please do consider supporting it with a donation.  Should you already donate, I THANK YOU.

Remote and in-person coaching options at Eugene Country Club and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club (periodically, in season).  The development of an optimal practice program for you, your needs, and your schedule.  Ideas and referrals in the equipment domain - those sticks in your bag, and your physical body.  Science and evidenced-based help in achieving higher mental acuity on the course.  A competent, comprehensive and on-going loop for learning, regardless of where you are on the planet.
