NOVEMBER 2016 BREWSLETTER

CLUB MEETING @ AT EAGLE ROCK HOMEBREWING SUPPLY: 4981 EAGLE ROCK BLVD, LA 90041 – THIS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH, 2PM - 6PM

Now that the weather is getting cooler, we can revisit an old favorite meeting spot behind the shop! We have bumped it up a week due to two events on Nov. 12th noted below. Sour beers are the style of the month, so pucker up, buttercup! Since this isn’t an establishment that sells beer, feel free to bring commercial examples of any style. Snacks are welcome and encouraged as well.

This is the last meeting before the Holiday Party, so it’ll be a good opportunity for last-minute planning and ideas.  We need volunteers to help with setup at 5pm on party Saturday as well as the next morning for breakdown and cleanup.  Please email Kim to offer your time and efforts.  Thank you - the party will be as awesome as we make it!

Tasting glasses are available for $4. These hold about 3 or 4 oz. of your favorite beverage, and have a heavy glass bottom. We still have green t-shirts on sale for $15 each, and a few pint glasses left for $5. We’ll be holding the raffle after announcements, and can always use donations to supplement the usual books, glassware and gift certificates.
LADIES OF YEASTSIDE BREW DAY @ CHRISTINA AND BONO'S IN WHITTIER: SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH, 9:00AM

Gayle Michel is organizing a Ladies Brew Day for the Sunday following the November club meeting.  The Ladies will create a Black IPA to serve at the Holiday Party.  As brewing is thirsty and hungry work, participants are asked to bring along their favorite brew-day potluck dish and fine beverages to stay hydrated - beer is mostly water, you know.  Email Gayle for more details and to RSVP.
THE YEASTSIDE BREWERS 2ND ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY
@ OLD OAK CELLARS:
2620 E FOOTHILL BLVD STE D, PASADENA - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17TH, 6PM

Our 2nd Annual Yeastside Holiday Party is just around the corner, so it’s time to button things up.
    •    If you haven’t RSVP’d via the Evite, please do so asap.
    •    If you’re a member in good standing and didn’t receive the Evite, please email Kim.
    •    To those bringing beer, please email Luis and let him know what you’re bringing, be it kegs, growlers, or bunches of bottles.  The more info you can provide (quantity, beer style, ABV, name of beer, etc), the better.
    •    As this is our year-end bash, feel free to also bring any commercial or homebrewed specialty, rare, prized, aged, or holiday beers to share!
    •    To the bringers of food, please be sure that your dish is cooked and ready to serve - crock pots can be handy, and we will have a few chafing dishes available to keep some dishes warm.  Please email Kim ASAP and firm up any food matters.
    •    As always, have a plan for getting wherever you’re going afterwards safely!
    •    Please include the words "Holiday Party" in any correspondence regarding the party or it may not get read.
SUPPORT YOUR HOMEBREW CLUB: BECOME A 2017 BOARD MEMBER!

We‘ve begun thinking about who among you will step up, accept the challenge, and help the Yeastside Brewers to continue growing and improving.  Being a board member isn’t a great burden, and becoming more involved in the decisions and actions that shape our club can be very rewarding.  Please reply to this email if you are willing to donate your time and efforts to helping our club operate. As an incentive, your club membership fee is waived for the year as a board member.  Thanks!
COMPETITIONS:

The Southern California Regional Homebrew Competition beers are due on Saturday, November 5th at the Eagle Rock Homebrew Shop where we are having our meeting.  Pretty convenient, huh?  We will also be needing judges to help during the competition on November 12th at the Inland Empire Brewing Company in Riverside.  That is the last competition of the year, so good luck to everyone!  However, the first competition in 2017 comes up rather quickly, so you should start brewing now.  It is the Maltose Falcon’s Doug King Memorial.  This is a focused competition that encompasses lagers, weird beers and British/Scottish stuff.  Get your lagers going now so they can be ready!

We will be doing a style tasting of Sours at our November meeting.  For those of you that agreed to have that style ready, try and have them at the meeting early as we try to do this portion about 30 minutes after the start of the meeting.  The style for December is Winter Warmers!  This normally means Old Ales, but you should view this as any brewery’s best beer (usually pretty big) that thanks their customers for their loyalty.  Remember, this portion of the meeting is for learning both on the tasting side as well as on the brewing side so it is a good excuse to stretch your brewing wings!
HOMEBREW DAY AT MATT DENNY'S ALE HOUSE: 145 E. HUNTINGTON DR., ARCADIA 91006 - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH, 1PM - 5PM

Matt Denny’s is holding their 9th Annual Homebrew Day that allows local homebrewers to share their beer.   There will be a brewing demo and a lunch buffet.  Admission is free if you sign up to pour your beer.  Otherwise admission is $45, and you get food, a t-shirt, tasting glass, and access to the homebrews.  For more info and to RSVP please email Eli Lambdin.
See you at the Eagle Rock Homebrew Shop on the 5th!
