JANUARY 2016 BREWSLETTER

CLUB MEETING @ CRAFT BEER CELLAR EAGLE ROCK:
1353 COLORADO BLVD, LA 90041 - JANUARY 9TH, 2PM - 6PM
Our first meeting of 2016 will be held at Craft Beer Cellar in Eagle Rock.  They are a small chain of craft beer bottle shops whose primary focus is finding the best beer that they can get their hands on. As this is a commercial establishment whom we should support for their hospitality, please limit homebrew to 1 or 2 bottles.  We are working on getting their corkage fee waived, so we might have that goin' for us.  Otherwise, they also have eight guest taps of local craft beer.

**It's time for everyone to pay their yearly dues of $24 to remain a Yeastside Brewers member in good standing, so please bring your currency and see our 2016 Club Treasurer Bono to square up.**

Let's start the new year on the good foot!
UPCOMING COMPETITIONS:
- Doug King Memorial Homebrew Competition - entries due this Friday, January 8th.
- Romancing The Beer Homebrew Competition - please see website for more information.

HERE'S SOME NEWS FROM THE CALIFORNIA HOMEBREWERS ASSOCIATION:

Happy Holidays CHA Members!
Even though the weather outside is chilly, you can keep yourself warm planning your homebrews for the 25th Southern California Homebrew Festival! April 30th is just around the corner, and we are about to start registration for the fest.

Starting Friday January 1, all 2016 CHA Members will be allowed to register themselves for the 25th SCHF. Only one registration per CHA member! Early registration fee is $35, and increases as we approach the festival.

Also starting January 1, we will accept volunteer registration. Any CHA member can sign up for volunteering. Volunteers commit to two (2) hours of work during the fest in exchange for free SCHF registration! If you sign up for Sunday cleanup, you will only need to do one (1) hour of work. Volunteer registration lasts through February 1, or until all spots are filled.

For the 25th SCHF, our Bragging Rights Only beer style is American IPA, 2015 BJCP Category 21A. Further details are available in the CHA Members Only section of the website.

Finally, the artwork submission deadline for the 25th SCHF is February 1. Calling all artists! Submit a logo to be used for the 25th Southern California Homebrew Festival. The winning logo will be used on all promotional material, including the commemorative glassware. Winners also receive complimentary festival registration (CHA membership must be purchased separately). See our website for submission details.

Hoppy Brew Year!

...and on that note...
SO CAL HOMEBREWERS FESTIVAL - VAIL LAKE, TEMECULA: APRIL 29TH & 30TH, 2016: UPDATE
It’s never too soon to start thinking about the Fest.  We have some new information from the CHA regarding what will be the 25th running of the So Cal Homebrewers Festival.  Of note is the fact that homebrew clubs WILL BE ALLOWED to pour beer on Friday night!  This is a major development and a return to how things were before all of the legal hoop-jumping of 2013 - 2014.  In addition to clubs pouring, the CHA is inviting 5 commercial breweries on Friday night and they are being asked to pour specialty or “rare” beers rather than their readily-available production beers.  The Bragging-Rights-Only (BRO) competition will be for American IPA, and we will conduct a club-only competition at our April 2016 meeting to determine our club’s entry.  Stay tuned for more info as the event approaches.

**If you're planning on going, now is the time to pay for your campsite reservations.  Camping fees for one person for the weekend are $25.  Please see Bono at the January meeting to reserve your spot.  Also, if you have a jockey box that you're willing to take to the Fest, please email Luis and let him know.  Thanks!**

ANGRY HORSE GROUP BREW - CALL FOR INTEREST
Ex-Pres Luis has graciously offered to conduct another educational and fun group brew.  A group brew, in this case, means contributing towards and participating in the brewing of a large all-grain batch of beer which is then divided amongst the participants and fermented separately.  This can yield interesting results, as each brewer subsequently adds their style and flair to their portion of the batch.  Interested?  Please email Luis and let him know.
AS LONG AS THE WEATHER IS STILL FRIGHTFUL (FOR LA)...
You know you want to look as good as these Yeastside models.  Reserve your hoodie before they're gone by emailing Bono.  Only 30 smackeroos!
Farewell, friends - see you at Craft Beer Cellar on the 9th!
