Happy Friday!

This week’s issue is a fun one. We have two kinds of coasters, helpful advice on animating hidden elements, research on the UX impact of animation, and a fancy 3D effect.

Until next week,

- Val

p.s. Replies go straight to my email, and I read them all. Reply and let me know what animation things you’re working on.

Marvin font site

This is my latest favourite variable font demo site. The use some really great animations to show off the weight and width options in a compelling way. It helps that it's a really stylish Art Deco inspired font too.

The solar system 2010 - 2020
A look back at the solar system made with some neat GSAP 3.0 tricks by Rob DiMarzo.

The most adventurous sign up form you've ever seen by Adam Kuhn.

A fun one made with CSS motion path by Michelle Barker.

The role of animation in UX
The Nielson Norman group writes about animation again, this time in a UX perspective. Their research reinforces a lot of the things we already knew about UX animation, but that still very useful.

Transitioning hidden elements
If you’ve ever tried to use a CSS transition on an element with the hidden attribute or display: none;, you know this can be a challenge. This tutorial walks you through some techniques to make transitioning hidden elements easier.

Material design style click effect with custom properties
A neat Material-like effect done all with CSS.

3D folding layout technique
An neat looking experimental effect from the folks at Codrops. Probably not something you'll be using in production but still really neat to see and know how it works.

Just one conference left for me to wrap up this year! If you’ll be there too, come say hi!

An Event Apart DC
April 13-15
