The UI Animation Newsletter
vol 18.28 • Aug 3, 2018 • Twitter / Subscribe / Archives

This week’s newsletter is coming to you from San Francisco where I’ve been enjoying the fog, and some great company, all week.

Today’s issue really covers a whole lot of ground. (I know I say that a lot, but there’s so much interesting work being explored these days!) We’ve got a variety of SVG animation, animated physics in VR, and even a little bit of CSS Grid and CSS animation working together.

Until next week,

- Val

p.s. Replies go straight to my email and I read them all. I’d love to hear about what you’re working on.

Timo Becker site

Timo Becker site

A very clever, and dare I say delightful, interaction for a personal site. You'll get a different illustration for every dot-connecting combination!

rocket ship and particle loader

Space loader
SVG, a rocketship, and particles? What's not to love about this loader from Chris Gannon? (Nothing, it’s 100% loveable!)

Low poly animals
A whole crew of rainbow-coloured low poly animals from Mikael Ainalem.

Visualizing the earth's orbit and seasons
The orbiting motion really helps to make this info-filled illustration by Mustafa Enes easier to understand.

Lock screen calendar
Alex Sol’s Dribbble shot combines some slick transitions and an informative scrolling effect too.

VR ball pit
I don't have any VR equipment with me but Kelly Lougheed's VR ball pit looks fun even without the VR. She's written up a tutorial to go with it too so you can dig into what it takes to animate physics in VR with AFrame.

Motion reveal slide show
Stylish sliding and swiping reveals from Mary Lou at Codrops.

Isometric commence CSSGrid
One example of how CSS animation and CSS Grid can be combined for some unique results.

If you're a fan of the Penner Easing Equations and ES6, this tweening library might be something to check out.

I’ll be at these conferences in the next few months. If you’re at one of them too, come say hi!
