  • Heritage Issues - Tom Ridge
  • Impact on your home and neighbourhood
  • How we can influence the proposals
We have an opportunity to have our say up until 23rd January 2017 so please come along and talk about this with other concerned local residents!

The previous Special Newsletter from Tom Ridge contained an online petition objecting to the demolition and replacement of the roof and (central) ventilation tower on the Grade II-listed 1855 main hospital building.

This newsletter contains a link to a second self-explanatory petition about Crest Nicholson’s planning application to Tower Hamlets Council, objecting mainly to the unacceptable impact of the three proposed residential blocks on the listed hospital building and its setting and on the Victoria Park Conservation Area.

My apologies for not including both petitions in the previous newsletter, but it was only after looking at the drawings and documents for a third time at the Town Hall and talking with one or two people that I realised the need for this second petition.

I know both are too long and complicated but I think it would be even more complicated and less effective to simplify the numerous points in one petition. Both petitions use the language of the National Planning Policy Framework (2012), which governs the planning process. Each petition deals with a separate but related aspect of a very complicated planning application.

BOTH PETITIONS NEED TO BE SIGNED (click buttons below)

First online petition (Alterations to listed building)
Chest Hospital Second Online Petition (Proposed residential blocks)
First online petition (Alterations to listed building) Please read the background notes and compare the elevations in the Special December Newsletter. When reading the background notes, please also read the missing paragraph from section on roof.

EAST END WATERWAY GROUP GASHOLDER PETITION

Partly in response to the reminder and thanks to the publicity and support of Spitalfields Life and the East End Preservation Society, “thousands” signed the gasholder petition. The completed petition with 3917 signatures was sent to the LBTH Plan Making Team on 2 January 2017. Over 950 of the signatures are from LBTH residents. More information to follow in a normal January newsletter.

On behalf of EEWG I thank all the people who signed and I hope that a similar number will sign both my petitions objecting to the planning application for the redevelopment of the Chest Hospital site.
