Big-hearted gesture

Nothing focuses one’s attention quite like staring into the face of a disadvantaged child.  Philanthropist and Society of Sagamores member Loreen Burkhart did just that, and was motivated to make possible a Sagamore Institute study delving into reasons why some students are shuffled from school to school harming their academic performance along the way.

Moved to organize

Indianapolis hospital CEO Bryan Mills was up to here with the parade of statistics documenting Hoosier health maladies ranging from smoking to obesity.  A gathering of visionaries in his field prompted Mills to assemble influential industry groups to approach the Indiana Legislature about renewing an assault on smoking.

No couch potato

Earle Hart is predisposed to action, so sitting still had no appeal during his retirement. Helping a couple of friends find jobs morphed into a sprawling outreach that has helped hundreds find new careers—all at a cost of about $5 per career.
