Travel Sommelier’s Destinations
and Product beyond Africa

Our returning African travelers frequently query, “To where else do you structure trips?”.  The short answer is to many destinations, with a focus on locations and products where we can bring expert knowledge and deep local relationships to bear.  It is safe to say that Travel Sommelier has solidly expanded its expertise beyond Africa and morphed into a custom Travel Design Company.

In addition to ‘All Things African’, some of our favorite destinations for which to tailor itineraries are:  Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Scotland, England, Cambodia and Vietnam.  Of course, we are constantly exploring new spots and keeping our list of favorites fresh and current!  Please do reach out to us if you would like to inquire about a specific destination not on this list.

This month’s TT showcases 'the best of the rest': inspiration for where to go and what do next….

Best for celebrating a milestone with friends
or a multigenerational family trip:
Côte de Provence, La Bergerie
A hideaway favorite for the discreet celebrity, this private villa is nestled on three manicured acres in The Terreblanche, the most sought after community in Provence.  Guests can play the resident European Tour golf course, visit remote Provenćal hilltop villages, fly a glider over nearby lakes and sail an America’s yacht sailboat off the nearby Côte d’Azur. I spent a few days here last month and also visited local wineries to tasted some of the finest Rosés imaginable (and learned the secret behind the name Whispering Angel).  Returning to the villa was like coming home each night…except with a top-notch private chef awaiting!  Celebrating a milestone and looking for a banner destination?  Look no further.

Best for Garden-to-Table gastronomic experiences: Areias do Seixo, Lisbon Coast
If you would regard mussel harvesting or rod fishing followed by picking herbs and vegetables and preparing them for dinner with one of Portugal’s most talented chefs as an ideal component of a trip, then this sleek and contemporary hotel on the Atlantic Ocean would be your nirvana.  AdS is an undiscovered gem nestled close to citadel fishing villages that time has forgotten.  The Ayurvedic Spa should not be skipped!

Best for all things that are good in Vietnam:
The Nam Hai in Hoi Ann
Uniquely, Hoi Ann is the ‘tailoring capital’ of SE Asia, so over a two day stay you can commission any personalized must-have wardrobe item tailored to expert perfection. That is an ancillary advantage to staying in Vietnam’s quaintest town where morning market breakfasts give way to scooter trips through the verdant rice paddy countryside and lazy afternoons at the beach on which the Nam Hai is based.  The hotel takes attentive service to stratospheric levels and the mindset
"I do not want to leave this paradise" rapidly sets in.

Best for Wine Lovers: Viña Vik, Chile
I love wine destinations that offer as many wine-less experiences as they do wine-based experiences. Viña Vik not only achieves this, it does so in a majestic setting.  The intimate hotel is at the vanguard of cutting edge design.  I think it offers an ideal cushion between Patagonia and the Atacama desert.

Digest, reflect and then let me know which one you choose as your
next destination…in the meantime, travel well, travel often and
travel with us!

Best regards, Darren
