Need Presentation Ideas for Our Social Meetings!

We’ve gotten very positive feedback for the past nine months on having a speaker or presentation of some kind every month at our Social Meetings.  Social Meeting attendance each month fluctuates between 20 and 50, depending on our program, so we are constantly looking for topics and presenters of maximum interest to our members.  As we don’t pay speakers, it’s a constant challenge that perhaps you can help with.  If you have any ideas of who or what would be good topics, let me know.  If you’ve seen or heard someone, who you think would be good for the club, let me know.    If you want to present something you think the membership would enjoy, let me know.   With your help, we can continue to line up great topics and speakers!

Thanks,

 Dave

April 1 - April 9, 2017 - Big Bend National Park on the Rio Grande in Texas.  - Cut off is Jan 30!
“There is a place in Far West Texas where night skies are dark as coal and rivers carve temple-like canyons in ancient limestone.  Here at the end of the road, hundreds of bird species take refuge in a solitary mountain range surrounded by weather-beaten desert.  Tenacious cactus bloom in sublime southwestern sun, and diversity of species is the best in the country.  This magical place is Big Bend.”

Our group of 20 will fly from Chicago to San Antonio, TX, and after a stroll down the River Walk and an overnight stay, drive to Big Bend National Park for 5 days of hiking through the Chisos Mountains, floating or canoeing down the Rio Grande River, and watching for a huge variety of birds in migration.  Big Bend is awesome; trails are easy to difficult; the food at the lodge is really good and reasonable; and the vistas and stars at night are magnificent.  Lots of funky towns and places to visit too.  Return to San Antonio on the 8th and fly back to Chicago on the 9th.

Trip includes airfare non-stop on Southwest Air (Midway), 2 nights Hampton Inn in San Antonio (breakfast included), 6 nights Chisos Mountains Lodge, wine and cheese party, and SUV rentals.  Not included are all other meals, other activities (canoe trip) and gas.

Cost:  $1199 per person, dbl occ, for 8 night adventure trip. Spaces are limited!  Sign up Now!

Jaks Meet up Socal Meeting

In addition to welcoming some new members our November meet up included a Show and Tell presentation by Dennis of Viking Ski Shop featuring a ton of new XC and Down Hill ski gear.  Battery powered heated ski gloves and break away carbon fiber ski poles were a hit as were the many new skis for the 2016-17 season.  There was also a drawing for nice raffle prizes courtesy of Viking Ski Shop.  Boot dryers, gift certificates, a skiers backpack and goggles were just a few of the gifts won that evening.  The group was reminded about the “Spring Back to Vail” April trip which is being co sponsored by LSSC and Viking Ski Shop.
