From Your Out-Going President
The 2014-2015 year has ended and I personally want to thank the other Board members who served our membership during the past busy year. We could not have a club without these dedicated volunteers. And as I move into the job of Club Consultant, I want to introduce and congratulate the incoming board for 2015-2016.
We want to welcome all our new members who have joined since our last issue. We can’t wait to meet you at an upcoming LSSC event. Be sure to introduce yourselves to other members so we can find out more about you!
Welcome New Member
Wayne Miller (new Treasurer)
Welcome and Thank You for volunteering to serve as board members this year!
We are all running unopposed, so we will be elected by acclamation and take office in early May. Our current and new board members are:
From Your Board - Fresh Tracks

|VP & Downhill Director
|Cross Country Director
n a bold move to improve recruitment and retention of members in their 20’s – 40’s, LakeShore is kicking off a new targeted social group called Fresh Tracks
on May 17th. This article describes what Fresh Tracks
is and what every LakeShore member can do to make it a huge success.
In a survey earlier this year of why members did not renew, the top reason among our younger members was “Not enough members in my age group”. It’s natural for us to build our strongest social connections with like-minded people at a similar place in life. However, our younger members are in the minority at every LakeShore event. The Fresh Tracks concept is to create a unique set of social events within the club, dedicated to the 20’s – 40’s age group. Fresh Tracks social events will be the platform to attract and retain our younger members and where they can connect with peers for event participation.
Our Fresh Tracks kick-off social event will be at the new Pinstripes in Streeterville on May 17
th. We will be promoting the Fresh Tracks kickoff on the website, Meetup.com, EVITE, Facebook, and via other venues. As this is the first event we've ever had specifically tailored to the 20’s – 40’s group, please forward the attached flyer to non-members who might be interested and post on your building's or work's public bulletin boards. Our ask is that every member take this simple step to get Fresh Tracks off to a great start.
As Fresh Tracks activities are designed to be peer-networking events for younger membership recruitment and retention, we are limiting registration to only the 20’s – 40’s age group for Fresh Tracks events. If there is an interest by our general membership, we will attempt to schedule similar events that are open to all members.
Thanks for your support,
Your 2014-2015 LSSC Board

Tony Award Winner: KINKY BOOTS
The musical, Kinky Boots, music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, is based on a book by Harvey Fierstein. Based on the 2005 film, Kinky Boots
by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, which was inspired by a true story, the musical tells of a struggling British shoe factory's young, straitlaced owner, Charlie, who forms an unlikely partnership with Lola, a drag queen, to save the business. Charlie develops a plan to produce custom footwear for drag queens and kings, rather than the men's dress shoes that his firm is known for, and in the process, he and Lola discover that they are not so different after all.
The production earned a season-high 13 nominations and 6 Tony wins, including Best Musical
and Best Score
for Lauper in her first outing as a Broadway songwriter, making her the first woman to win alone in that category

38 lucky skiers arrived in Aspen, Colorado to a snowy evening. Half of the group flew into Eagle Vail and had a scenic drive thru the mountains narrated by our friendly bus driver. The rest of the group came from various locations including California, Oregon, Minnesota, Washington, DC, Florida, Wisconsin, Breckenridge, Dillon and Bolder.
Our first day of skiing was difficult for most of the group except Lucyna Kanaszyc who loved all of the new snow. Ed Dominiak, one of Club Instructors, gave a lesson to a group of 10. Apres ski was a pizza party back at the Limelight Hotel followed by the outdoor hot tubs or watching the snowcats work on Aspen Mountain from the comfort of the easy chairs by the fireplace with a glass of wine.
The following 4 days were filled with sunshine along with dinner groups dining at the fine gourmet restaurants around town or the old standbys such as Annie’s or the Red Onion. Everyone enjoyed the jazz groups which played at the hotel après ski nightly.
Three of Lake Shore’s most accomplished skiers, Mary Kate Rigney, Paula Henttu, and Pauli Kolsi hiked up 25 minutes to the Highlands Bowl portaging their skis. They now have bragging rights.
Our last day of skiing was followed by a group dinner at the Hickory House. New Lake Shore members Ed Pedraza and Nicholas Bridge were recognized as well as long time returning members Peggy Pape, Barbara Laskowski, Mary Rigney, Joan Reilly and Carole Phillips.
With bad weather conditions in Chicago, we did have an adventure on our return with cancelled flights on both our Eagle connection and Southwest out of Denver. Everyone eventually arrived back in Chicago 1 or 2 days later. Except for the travel delay everyone had a great time and would like to return next year.
Spring is HERE (we hope!). That means it’s time to renew your LSSC membership for another year of exciting trips, events, MeetUps and more. Take a moment to read about our new
social group…targeted to our 20-40 year old members.
, 2015 can benefit from our “early renewal” savings. The standard Membership Fee for LSSC dues for 2015-201 are $30, but if you renew by June 30th, you pay
