Note From Your Communications Director
Guess we’re all into this “electronic” age, but thought these might be helpful hints on managing your LSSC membership online.
- Updating your own Contact Information – you can go to www.lssc.org and sign in with your username/password. (If you’ve forgotten it, let me know and I’ll email it to you).
- Click on “Profile” at the top of screen (under graphic banner) and your data info should appear
- Then click on “Contact Info” under Personal Info Box to update any changes to address, phones, emails, etc.
- Finding other Members Contact Info-you can do this from your Computer OR from your smartphone.
- If you’re already signed in and on our LSSC website, click on the Membership bar at left, then click on “directory”.
- Scroll OR type the members name into the search bar to bring up their contact info.
- If you are not logged in, you can go to membership directory more quickly by using this URL: www.lssc.org/members. You’ll still need to log in with your usename/password, then you’ll be directed right to the Directory (nice shortcut-thanks Dani Kirby for pointing this out).
We are in the process of producing a printed Directory this Fall, so if your contact information is NOT correct, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
as I’ll be taking info as it currently is listed as of 10/5.
We have an exciting Ski Season ahead – don’t forget to sign up for our 1st
event-Midwest New Year’s Trip designed for both downhill/board and XC members.
See you on the slopes.
Greek Town Dinner Cut-off 10/8. Contact Shelli if still interested!
October 10, 2014
This year, due to overwhelming requests, we are returning to the award winning THE PARTHENON restaurant, a Chicago Greek town leader since 1968. Join 80 of your Lake Shore friends for another fabulous dinner party in our own private setting. Symbolizing the birthplace of Western Civilization, the Parthenon is one of Greece’s proudest achievements standing majestically on the renowned hilltop that is the Acropolis of Athens. Naming this restaurant after this architectural wonder carries a deep responsibility for excellence; the owners Chris, Yanna and Chef Sotiris never take this obligation lightly. The emphasis at The Parthenon is on great food, so bring a healthy appetite. The cuisine is among the best in the area.
We will start with appetizers of Saganaki (flamed cheese with the customary OPAA!), Taramousalata (pink caviar spread), crusty bread, Egg-Lemon soup, Greek salad, and Roditys wine. Main course includes Gyros with tsatsiki, Rotisserie-Roasted Lamb, Pastitsio [macaroni baked with meat sauce, béchamel and kefalotiri cheese], Rice pilaf, Lemon Roasted Potatoes and Spanakopita [spinach-herbs – feta cheese pie]. A VEGETARIAN or GLUTEN FREE dinner option is available. Of course we will end with Baklava (philo, nuts and honey), Galaktoboureko (light custard in philo) and coffee or tea. There is more than enough for anybody’s tastes or desires. Don’t miss this real Greek dinner party and the fun return to Greek Town.

||$1,119 *(just reduced by $100.00)
Join us as we check out this undiscovered gem just north of the border in the Monashee range in central British Columbia. You’ll never see crowds or lift lines.
Getting there is half the fun. As the bus takes us north from Spokane, we’ll pass through rolling hills and follow a river before we begin our climb into the mountains as we approach the Canadian border. We’ll stay slopeside at the Slalom Creek Condos that can’t be beat for luxury – each condo has its very own outdoor hot-tub on the balcony. And, upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a Complimentary Welcome Reception in the Rafters Apres Ski Bar.
Trip also includes
- Snow Cat skiing on newly-opened terrain that includes plenty of trails for intermediate as well as advanced skiers. If you’ve never tried cat skiing this is your opportunity. If there is sufficient interest, we’ll rent a cat for a day as a group, at about $80 per person.

The Houghton, Michigan area boasts ski trails for all abilities and interests — from wide trails groomed daily for skating and classic style, to narrow intimate striding-only wooded trails. There is over 100K of groomed cross country ski trails. Located in the Keweenaw peninsula of Lake Superior, Houghton and its sister city of Hancock receive about 250” of annual snowfall. Major trail systems include:
- Michigan Tech Nordic Training and Recreational Forest has 35 km of groomed ski trails and ranks among the top six in the nation, they are hosting the U.S. National Cross-Country Skiing Championship in 2015 and 2016. This trail system is located in Houghton.
- Chassell Classic Ski Trail has 10 km of quiet trails, winter grooming for striding only. Located near Highway 41 in town of Chassell, about eight miles south of Houghton.
- The Mast Hiihto trails have about 25 km for striding only . This system is adjacent to the Houghton County Arena in Hancock and connects to the Churning Rapids Trails for backcountry skiing.
- The beautiful Swedetown Pathway Ski trails in Calumet off of Osceolo Road. This area has 30 km of ski trails for all levels and snow shoeing. Calumet is about 13 miles from Houghton.
Cross Country skiing is not the only skiing on the scenic Keweenaw Peninsula. The town of Hancock boasts Mt Ripley
as a star attraction. Mt. Ripley is home to the most snow in the Midwest with average snowfall of 273”. It has 24 trails, 440' vertical drop, 112 acres of skiable terrain, 100% night skiing and snowmaking, six different glade runs and three lifts.
As an added bonus to the trip, a major dog sled race will be held while we are visiting. The CopperDog 150 Pro/Rec Class Dog Races will start on Friday, February 27th
. The race begins in historic downtown Calumet which will be transformed into a race showplace. A snow road will be laid down the middle of 5th Street so people can watch these teams depart Friday night, heading out into the snow covered terrain for a race filled with challenging twists, turns, and elevations. Merchants will be readying their shops for all the visitors that will be flooding the streets of Calumet Friday night during the Main Street Calumet street party. Music, food, and dogs all come together to create an event that will suck you into the excitement of sled dog racing.
Although this trip will be self- financed, we need to have you register on-line with Lake Shore at: www.lssc.clubexpress.com/xc_houghton
