September 2020 Update:

We pray all is well as September comes to a close and we welcome in the cooler months. We are so thankful for you and the opportunity to continue serving in Chichi, all thanks to your continued support, prayers, and faithfulness. This month we have some special stories to share with you, and we hope you join with us in lifting them up in prayer and praise to our Father.

To begin, this past month we have continued our food giveaways to our feeding program communities and to our families in our family sponsorship program, Mi Familia. Time after time this is proving to be a huge help and blessing for the families. As mentioned in the previous newsletter, our feeding program teachers have been giving Bible lessons with the food. We have heard stories of kids excitedly turning in their “homework” while pointing out the different sections that their parents and their siblings did with them. Praise God for this opportunity to bring families together and being able to feed bodies, mind and spirit!

Above is a video of MDJ staff member Kique, the head of Mi Familia. He has a huge heart for the families in our program, which is evident through this video as he talks about one of our families and closes with discussing a little bit about what this time has looked like for him.

To give a bit of background to Kique’s story, Theodora is Johanna’s mother, and grandma to Julio and Cesar, Johanna’s two sons. About 3 years ago when Johanna was 20 years old, doctors discovered brain tumors and she went through a pretty risky surgery to have them removed. The doctors removed as much as they could, the surgery went well, and Johanna hadn’t had any more problems until now. A few weeks ago, after a couple fainting episodes and hospital visits, it was found that Johanna’s tumors have begun to grow again. Kique went to visit and pray with them.

Pray for healing for Johanna, for the tumors to go away - we believe our God heals! Pray that God’s peace that transcends all understanding will cover Johanna, Theodora and the boys. We praise God for Kique and his willingness to be the hands of Jesus!

For those of you who don’t know, before every big team season we buy coffee from Guatemalan growers and offer them for sale to team members to support the Guatemalan coffee industry. We were fully stocked and ready for the spring when everything was shut down, and we had a bunch of coffee stocked that we didn’t want to go bad. After some conversations and brainstorming, we gave over 25 bags of coffee to our friends at a local coffee shop, and they have had it for sale in their store for the past 4 months, with a sign saying that all proceeds from the sale of that coffee will go to families in need of food. Just recently they reached out to us with pictures showing the families that were served as a result of these coffee sales. We loved this opportunity to partner with a local business in Chichi and to see their hearts for helping their people. We give God all the glory for working through his Church in unforeseen ways to spread the Kingdom!
