August 2020 Update:
We pray that you are all well as you enter the fall season! We appreciate your continued support and prayers for the ministry, our staff, and the communities we serve. Here are some updates on what is going on in Guatemala and in our ministry, as well as some ways you can be praying!
Since May, we have been able to give out 16,000 pounds of food to the communities we serve! What an incredible blessing it has been to these families, and we thank you for the generous ways you have contributed to make that happen. We give God the glory for His provision, and we pray we can continue coming alongside the communities in this way!
Not only has it been a way to physically meet needs during this time, it has allowed us to engage with the families we serve as well. Hugo, the director of the feeding programs, created some Bible lesson activities to send with the families when they come to get the food. It is a way to encourage them spiritually, and it is something they can do together as a family! We appreciate our staff and feeding program teachers as they are  adapting to the season we are in and continuing to serve our communities well. Pray that this activity and time spent together enriches the lives of the families to know and understand God more!

We have heard incredible stories of the fruit that is coming from the food giveaways. One of our feeding programs is in the community of Paquixic, and there we work with Pastor Tomas, a pastor of a local church in that community. Throughout this time, Pastor Tomas has been doing home visits along with the food deliveries to check in on the families in his community. He has been encouraged that many families are returning back to God in this season. We are thankful for the opportunity that the food giveaway is allowing our staff to minister to the families we serve.
Pray that these opportunities keep coming up, and that our staff is able to point the families towards God!

The Koetsier family’s season of serving with Manos has sadly come to an end. They faithfully served for 5 years in Chichi! They poured their hearts into the ministry, relationships with our Guatemalan and American staff, the families from the feeding programs, our short-term mission teams, the Chichi Church community, and really anyone they came in contact with! They have led well, and have brought so much perspective, knowledge, and insight to the ministry. We are, by far, much better because of their time here and their obedience. They are now being called back home to Michigan to pour into their business and be with their family. We love them dearly, and we are excited to see what God has next for them! Pray for the Koetsier family and their transition. Due to COVID-19, they were not able to have the proper transition that they hoped for. Pray for Jessica and Jaelyn as they start a new school this year.

The restrictions in Guatemala have loosened up some. All of the regions in the country are broken up into different categories based on the number of cases in that region. Chichi is currently in a category with a lower amount of cases, so we have less restrictions. For us, transportation is running at 50%, social distancing is being enforced, and there are strict health protocols administered in work places. Pray for us as a ministry as we navigate bringing our staff back to work, while continuing to protect them and our community the best we can. Pray for Guatemala, the President, and the leaders throughout the country that they will continue to be given wisdom and discernment in what to do.
