My annual School's Debating Competition will be held at the end of this month, on Friday 28th February, at South Bromsgrove High School, following their victory last year. The competition offers students across Bromsgove an excellent opportunity to perfect skills in speaking and critical thinking. If you would like to attend, please send me an email and I will give you more details.

Activity

Met Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Chairman, Harry Turner, and Chief Executive, Penny Venables, to discuss the future of hospital services in Worcestershire following the very positive recommendations put forth by the Independent Clinical Review Panel.

Visited Oasis Flowers in Barnt Green and met Tina and Jan, the mother and daughter team who run the family business.
 
Held a ‘Street Surgery’ with District Councillor Richard Deeming outside Tesco in Barnt Green.
  
Visited Woodrush Academy to discuss the school's expansion plans.
 
Met Bromsgrove District Council Chief Executive, Kevin Dicks, and Leader, Roger Hollingworth, for our regular meeting to discuss constituency-wide issues. 
 
Met Mark Yates, Chief Fire Officer of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, 
to discuss reforms and the new joint police and fire station under construction near the Artrix in Bromsgrove.

Held a 'Street Surgery' in Hagley with District Councillors Margaret SherreyChris Scurrell and Steve Colella, and District Council Candidate Karen May.

Attended the McDonald’s Franchisee Forum, held at the Hilton Hotel in Bromsgrove, and gave a presentation to West Midlands business men and women on issues affecting the retail and hospitality sector. 
 
Visited HME Technology to discuss their new educational products.

Signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment in the House of Commons.

Attended a dinner at Barnt Green Cricket Club with local residents to discuss public policy.

Visited Farm Foods in Rubery and met the duty manager, who was attacked by were attacked by armed robbers on 22nd January – I would encourage any witnesses or anyone with any information on the incident to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
 

Attended a UNICEF dinner in Parliament and spoke about my visit to Sierra Leone.
 

Met the Bentley Area Action Group to update them on the issue of cross-boundary housing supply. 

Visited Crabtree Court to meet residents and answer their questions about Worcestershire County Council and Brosmgrove District Housing Trust.
 
Deputised for the Chancellor at ECOFIN in Brussels, a meeting of all the Finance Ministers from across the EU.

Another minister close to the Chancellor, Sajid Javid, told the BBC on Wednesday that the minimum wage "is about 10% lower in real terms, I think, than where it was in 2008" and there was a "a strong case to look at it".

Mr Javid told the BBC’s Daily Politics programme that there was a strong case for a rise. ‘The Department of Business has asked the Low Pay Commission to look into this. They’re going to report back shortly and we’ll see what they come up with,’ he said.
