Organic Biodynamic Cranberry Sauce!  In case you're in the dark about what Biodynamic agriculture is, let us shine an orb of celestial light on the subject:  Rudolph Steiner developed the ideas around this unique form of alternative agriculture.  While very similar to organic farming, it includes various esoteric concepts such as the use of an astrological sowing and planting calendar.  It also calls for various herbal and mineral additives for compost additives and field sprays; these are sometimes prepared by controversial methods, such as burying ground quartz stuffed into the horn of a cow, which are said to harvest "cosmic forces in the soil", that are more akin to sympathetic magic than agronomy.

According to Steiner, agriculture should be based on the ideal of a mixed farm where the animals are fed from crops grown on the farm and in turn those crops, along with food crops, are fertilized with composted manure from the same animals. A Biodynamic farm, at its base, imitates the self-sufficiency of nature.

However you prefer the aura around your OG cranberries, these ones are bursting with flavor and have lent themselves to an incredible sauce comprised of 3 simple ingredients:  The aforementioned ladies of the hour, Organic Maple Syrup and Fresh Organic Cara Cara Oranges.  Sure to raise the vibration and harmoniously accent any organic bird or veggie loaf.  7oz $4.99

Buying produce from the GBCFC isn't just better for your health than buying conventional produce-- it's significantly better for the farmers who grow it. According to recent statistics from the USDA, conventional farmers only receive 8 cents for each dollar of produce sold in grocery stores. Conversely, we pay farmers 75 cents for each dollar of produce sold in-store.

Gary Romano of SierraValley Farms has published another book, "July and Winter: Growing Food In the Sierras" and we are now carrying it in our Wellness Department upstairs! This is a must have, as declared by Romano himself to be "his growing Bible".

How to extend the season in our mountainous region, harvest tips, the pillars of building good soil, dealing with limited water, extreme weather and so much more! His introduction quote: "The single greatest lesson the garden teaches is that our relationship to the planet need not be zero-sum, and that as long as the sun still shines and people can still plan and plant, think and do, we can, if we bother to try, find ways to provide for ourselves without diminishing the world." - Michael Pollan - The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals

Can you believe that it has been 10 years since Pollan's local food game changing book was published?!?!
