The Great Lakes Bottom Mapping Workgroup’s website is fully launched and stuffed with information to get those working in bathymetric and benthic data up to speed.
The group’s exists to “harmonize the collection, sharing, and use of lake floor data for the great lakes and connecting channels.”
Many areas of the Great Lakes have not been mapped since the 1950’s, and many of the existing datasets are hard to access or use. That's why the BMW is working to create continuous, high-resolution maps and datasets for bathymetry, habitat, maritime cultural resources, and biology.
Find members of the group in Traverse City, MI this fall supporting Lakebed 2030.
