Falling Leaves, stoneware sculpture by Reed Weir

Summer Harvest
My sculpture is a conceptual balance between three elements: the human figure, art and craft. In my work the cycle between these three elements constantly play off each other. Two historic examples of work that contain this triad are the doll and the religious icon. The figures of Summer Harvest include sculptures with doll-like characteristics presented as contemporary visual performance artists on the cusp of an action. My reason for this was to reference contemporary craft discussions on the importance of the role of tactility in craft.  I have stretched the ideas of tactility to include function or performance. Newfoundland performance artist, Colette Urban, was the inspiration for the series.
