Fifth Congressional District Candidate Forum
Friday, October 7, 2016
11:30AM, Lunch; 12 Noon, Program
Willamette Heritage Center

Register By Noon, October 5

The Salem area claims the 5th Congressional District. But, the district is broader and more diverse than Marion and Polk Counties. It spans from the coast at Lincoln and Tillamook Counties south to northern Benton County, and north to Clackamas County and southwestern Multnomah County.

Industry to agriculture. Urban to rural. It’s a district sure to challenge any office-holder. Two people are doing just that.
Join us on Friday, October 7, for a candidate forum with the three individuals who have qualified to represent their parties in the November general election.
Kurt Schrader, a Democrat, is Oregon’s 5th Congressional District Representative, a position he has held since 2008. He is also a small businessman and veterinarian, and raised his five children on Canby’s historic Three Rivers Farm. After serving on Canby’s local planning board he entered the Oregon House of Representatives in 1997, moving to the State Senate in 2003 where he served as the co-chair of Oregon’s budget committee until his election to Congress. Rep. Schrader is also the Independent Party candidate.

Colm Willis is the Republican candidate. He is a native Oregonian, a husband and father of two daughters, and a small business lawyer practicing in Stayton, Oregon. Prior to opening his own law firm, Colm served as the Political Director of Oregon Right to Life and as an aide to the Joint Economic Committee in the U.S. Senate.

Marvin Sandnes is the Pacific Green Party Candidate. Sandnes grew up in Mt. Angel and graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science in Social Science. He has been a business owner in Salem for 50 years, owning and managing property. He restored the West Salem City Hall and wrote the successful nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. Sandnes has been active in the Oregon Legislature since the early 1970s.
